BJFE Deep Blue Delay?? What??

Postby zhivago » Sat Jun 18, 2016 2:58 am

Wow...I never knew this existed...I don't own it unfortunately, although I would LOVE to have one!

I came across this picture by complete accident...does anyone have any info on this?

Is there a way to somehow get one from Bjorn still?

I have an Echoczar (with Angelbaby), but would love something more compact :)

We have a bit more traffic nowadays on the site, so I thought I'd bump this thread up.

What is the story on this pedal?

Was it the BJFE equivalent of the MP DPD?

If it wasn't the equivalent of the MP DBD, is it digital or analog?

Is it still occasionally being made in small batches or one-offs? :)

I ADORE the blue casing! :pedallove :tongue

Hi there,

Oh this is prototype of the MP DBD and I made acouple of those including also a dlx version that actually was closer to the absolute first prototype I made for MP DBD.

the one in the picture I actually made for my own use but later sold to a studio guitarist...and so it begun its journey

Yes it is digital.

thank you that is a blue tint from the 50's ;)

Right so I have made a few of those through the years and often made models that exist in only a few pedals. For the few DBD's made some have custom tuning for a slightly brighter sound.
We are talking very few BJF DBD's ever made.

As further research on delay and ambience I also made the echoverb that is also digital but hold both reverb and delay and with more features.

At your service

Thank you so much for the info, Bjorn! :glasses

That 50s blue tint really is excellent! :pedallove

Is it likely that you will ever build anymore of these, in this awesome colour? I'd love to have one :)

I have been also very interested in the BJFE Echoverb, and I see that the casing you have been using lately has changed. is there a reason for that, there than aesthetic? :)

many thanks for your input!

Hi Bjorn, having seen lots of clone of the DBD with tap tempo, did you ever consider making a batch with tap tempo? Also did you have a hand in the mad professor deep blue delay deluxe? Not many stockists but it reminds me of the deluxe in the picture above.

Cheers bill

Hi Bill,

About tap tempo I sort of made the DBD to prove a point that tap tempo isn't always needed ( sometimes it is) but I had a professor in guitar play for me perfectly or shall we say imperfectly out of tempo with the repeats in order to check if
A, it would be disturbing to the musician
B. if it would be disturbing to the listener

It was concluded then on both A and B that since the repeats were not exact replicas of the fundamental or dry sound repeats did not get in the way of playing or listening.

Yes I have considered tap tempo and also came to the conclusion that when that is most effective the repeats would preferably be dead on replicas of the dry fundamental delay times where tap tempo would be most effective would be 600mS to 1000mS, which is beyond the delay times of Deep Blue Delay.
I have looked at delay mediums that would allow sufficient delay times at a bandwidth I'd find acceptable ( minumum 5KHz and preferably 7KHz) and tap tempo solutions for such devices.

This somewhat collided with random modulation that I found more interesting to make but let's say solutions for tap tempo with device capable of making suffient delay time and sufficient bandwidth are few and some such solutions are even bought as in locked to one manufacturer other solutions I am looking at but with no particular urgency.

Yes I did design the MP Deep Blue Delay Dlx as well while that has a delay time maximum just shy of 600mS making tap tempo not so interesting but the forte that the DBD dlx has is it's multiple repeats making for complex delays.

I'd like to think of echoes in three categories
A. as used instead of reverb
B . for medium delay times used to fill in gaps but not really make dubbling
C. for dubbling echo e.g.like Les Paul would or setting long delays perfectly on tempo

Have fun
BJ

BJ, I own a green one that says "Aqua Marine Delay" and if you remove the back plate it says "1 of 1". Is this pedal analog or digital? It has 3 knobs, Level, Time, Repeats. Sounds great too.
