Model D for a low gain player? Or go HBOD / Model G instead?

Low to low-medium gain into clean, high headroom amp, mainly single coils. With the Model D, am I going to just have too much gain on tap? Am I better off with the Model G or Bee?

Just curious from those in the know.

Well, with stock Bee's and G's+ single coils, your going to hit the lower side of medium gain with that set up....of course, stacking is an option, but if your only looking for one(and they are all very different flavors), I might say the D would fit the bill best(I have all three). It does have ample gain on tap, but with single coils, it's a great balance between low gain, and medium gain(+ if desired, and good to have that swing), with all the dynamics you'd expect from a BJFE.

Out of the three, I would recommend the Model G, though I can understand melodichaotic's viewpoint. Model D is also a great sounding pedal. Model G is a bit more raw and open, which I prefer with my single coil rig, and seems to have more options on the lower gain spectrum.

If you are open to other pedal alternatives, I would highly recommend the BBOD. At 12V, the pedal sings through such a set-up as yours. Baby Blue is my favorite BJFE creation, and it has great rock and blues tonalities. Never tried raising the voltage to 12v on my BBOD. It's a v1 though. Anyone know if there's any reason not to try this? Can't find the info in the library.

Awesome I'll give it a go. I love my v1 but who knows if it'll be better at 12v. Also curious if it'll increase the output. That's my only complain that unity is pretty high up on the level knob and trying to get much extra volume out of it is a no-go with humbuckers.

The headroom isn't improved too much, but you will get a bit more. I find myself well above noon at unity. Because it can play a bit like a fuzz box, you can play around with the volume, dirt and guitar volume to find a sweet spot. The tone rocks, though!
