Treble knob to dial in the brightness. Many love the dark tones but there are plenty of folks who find it too dark for their rigs...
PPF with a
Voltage Sag knob -- no explaination required here
EGDM and
MH(vT) with their respective
trimmers on the outside.
Or if you want to really do something awesome -- having a
compression knob on the
EGDM would be epic.
SYODv2 with a
"Bite/Sharpness" knob to dial it in between the smoother distortion characteristics of the SYODv2 and the bright cutting distortion tones of the SYODv1.
Question.... should this topic be its own thread? [[done]]
So what else do you guys have in mind?
I'll just copy what I posted on the 9th from the original thread:
I think you will have no problem getting a number of replies on this, myself included...well, two are obvious: treble for Model H and EGDM...lower mids control for Dyna Red, although right you could have it voiced with some pre-set lower mids, and it could certainly benefit from having an additional presence control, so that the high could be say "tamed", yet the overall voicing of the upper frequencies could be set/left more open.
There are lines of course that emerge, when one may want something very specific/custom, and yes the outboard pre and post EQ/boost solutions work very effectively, though there is that bit of a balancing/convenience dynamic(or conundrum depending on how you look at it), where a balanced and varied sound is achieved in a self contained unit(Model G comes instantly to mind), and where different EQ/boost settings emerge specific to each drive pedal that is used.
Of course, after all this time, recently it came to me that since Bjorn thinks so outside of the conventional box, that 3-knobs can't always properly represent
the brilliance of his designs. I will also add that, yes I agree with you Cliff on the treble or presence knob for the HBOD, though since I have a Deluxe, I have it set so that the BPB is on at unity gain(or slightly higher), and it definitely lifts the HB side enough(adds that nice sheen like the Minivibe does), and that works for me since I usually have N at around 10 o clock.
I also agree on the SYOD...I think V1 could be voiced overall slightly less bright, but with an additional presence knob to smooth out the top end, while allowing for higher, more open treble settings.
For V2, I have the earlier Gold top slightly darker by comparison to the later V2's(which I think sound very close to V1 at lower to med gain settings), and the treble range is great on that one...all it needs is a presence knob to lift things a bit overall and you'd have a different SYOD killer.
Yeah, you can get kooky on the functions....compression knob on the EGDM would be very cool although without the compression it wouldn't be an EGDM(not necessarily a bad thing)....I though it would be cool to have in addition to a presence control for the HB, and sag control(not voltage), so that you could get it slightly tighter sounding, but then with the option of getting even more saggy, for some super Supro grease
I played through a Maven Peal with the sag control a long while back and that control worked GREAT...would be killer applied to the Bee.
There's lots of very do-able possibilities.
