Snow White Fuzz / Artic White Fuzz. Whats the difference?

Postby SteveA » Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:15 pm

I have recently become very VERY interested in the SWF/AWF but am still intrigued by the differences between both. What are they really? Can a SWF be converted to AWF specs? ANY input on teh matter would be really really appreciated.

I had a Snow White, and I briefly owned that one and only SOF. I now have an Arctic White. Both the SOF and AWF have more gain, and the tone control is much more use-able IMO. The SOF was tough to sell, and I wouldn't have if not for winning the AWF...fortunately though it is currently in extremely good hands.
The EQ on the SOF is just FAT! Great bottom end and incredibly full sounding. The AWF is close, but with tighter mids and overall a bit more focus.
Still, I wouldn't call the SOF or AWF high gain at all...medium gain, but with tons of TONE(of course I know that's redundant on this Forum)...if you think of the HBOD and SYOD as your go to overdrives, I hear the AWF like that, as your medium gain go to to fuzz pedal. Killer crunchy Rhythm grind for days.

Wow, you actually had all three! That's quite rare. Thanks for the info. It does then seem like the circuit evolved quite a bit from the SWF to the AWF. Focused sound, tighter mids, etc. I expected the tone control to be slightly different.

Hi,

I think I have most anything about Arctic/Snow White Fuzz on this forum while it may be on various threads.

Here goes a short resume:
I made the Snow White firstly for my own use and becuase I needed a fuzz or a new pedal for a Vintage Guitar show- that's what you show at Vintage guitar shows?

Anyway to do some research on this model some were made and research showed that many thought it was a bit bass heavy and now abot this time BJF VCF was transfered to MP line and became Snow White Auto Wha........ahum, I thought I needed a new name and some Arctic White Fuzzes were made using the same circuit but different name and this is also noted on this forum and I also had a conversation with Doc Rock and made some changes to the circuit and the schematic as I was building Smokey Orange Fuzz to make tonecontrol range a bit more useful and adjusting a few other things in the bass response.

Now a new batch was made called Artic White Fuzz with those changes and one could think it could end tere while some would then say that the AWF was a bit low gain so I made a higher gain version.

Lastly as I ran out of snow I made a few Arctic Light Fuzzes that were plain boxes with brushed surface.

And so finally I am debating what to do with this circuit and this winter we've gotten plenty of snow so now I've but to figure out how to put on the snow to the boxes before it melts and yes I tried without the lights

Have fun

Love learning about the progression of the pedal and it seems like there has been quite a change from the original circuit of the Snow White. I hope i'll get to post back with some impressions of it whenever I get mine!

If the AWF goes into production I'm sure you'll find it'll earn its place among the best just like the pgc, the sbeq. And the hbod and model H have earned on my board. Its a shame that there aren't more demoes of it but since its so rare ... The only other pedal that's got my attention this much is the SYOD. Bjorn I love ur stuff ! Here's hoping that I get mine soon :)

I don't know if the AWF is going into production but I got an email from Custom Sounds yesterday saying that my AWF is finished. I can't wait to get it :D (it's nearly been 10 months since I got on the list)
