FS (possibly) RARE DELAYS!

Postby hawaii121 » Sun Oct 16, 2011 12:53 am

Hello All,

After much deliberation, I am not going to sell either of the delays. The TES is one of the items like the MG where it's elusive nature makes for lot's of want. Reality is that the Delay 80s and the ECzar together are quite fantastic and I really don't want to part with my ECzar to own a TES. I need both! :love4 :confused2 ... In all seriousness, I had another forum member share some personal insight into the TES (he has owned both the TES and the 80s) and how they differ is truly enticing (TES repeats "thicker" and more headroom), but not enough for me to do right now.

I'll wait for now.

Truth is, I'm very much on the fence. The EC is incredible and so is the providence. I've just really wanted to try a TES and I don't think Pete is taking any more orders for the next year or two.

Yep I have been bidding up the TES. Its starting to get up there beyond my range. I got on the list about 8 months ago so I probably have another year and a half to go.

Yeah, I think it's probably going to go for big $ as there is bound to be someone who can go as high as need be. The only way I could stay in this would be to sell these two delays.

Honestly, it's kind of cool having both analog and digital to mix together and I am sure I would miss the EC at some point. The EC is and probably always will be the top of the analog delays. The Delay 80s really is IMO as good as people claim and really does a very convincing Gilmour (possible TES?) style thing. The one and only side by side comparison of the TES and the Delay 80s comes from a guy who I know has a lot of really nice equipment. Though I have had less than positive interaction with the author, he does paint a convincing argument to just hang onto the Delay 80s.

What I really look for in a delay is the ability of the delay to make things sound bigger without repeats getting in the way. I also like delays where the repeats are closer to the original guitar tone vs, the other extreme, the sometimes 'tin' sounding repeats of many delays. Both of these pedals are simply extraordinary, but as all of us on this site know, sometimes part of all of this is getting to try something that is very rare.

If you end up getting the one off eBay - keep your order in with Pete and I'll be your customer in a year or two

Sure we could do that Donnel. I had Pete include the rate and depth knobs for modulation.

I bid the current TES up to $1,725. Not sure how much higher I would be willing to go and I am sure it will break $2,000.

About 6 months ago there was a buy it now TES for $1,200. I was thinking about it and moments later it was sold. :banghead

I think we have all missed a gem or two along the way. I missed a great deal on a BBOD a while back because I hesitated for just a couple minutes.

All the same, you are on the list with Pete and that counts for A LOT already. I requested to be added and after getting no response out of 3 emails I pretty much figured the answer was "no." I also then heard/read that he is not taking any more TES orders for the next 2 years. That means, at best, a TES from Pete is 4 years away assuming he is still even making them at that point.

Happy hunting!

Oh, and I need to add to this thread... $1650 is based on $1500 (what I paid for the two pedals), plus $100 (expression pedal - same thing, what I paid), plus 2 TRS cables from Ed. Make no mistake, I LOVE the EC and will be happy no matter how this all turns out.

After some thought and an email from a former owner of both the d80s and a TES, I have decided to stick with what I have. Between the EC and the 80s I essentially have 5 different delay settings at the stomp of a foot. I'm sure the TES is wonderful, but, at the moment, I don't want to have to part with my EC to do it. I'll wait for a better time in the future.
