PPF has landed in Hawaii

Postby hawaii121 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 9:31 pm

I just plugged in the PPF and I really like it. I have owned few of the Cornish pedals and was curious how the PPF would compare to the G2. With the Cornish stuff, I am looking to fill the more violin, compressed, distortion/fuzz sounds on my board. When I think about BJFE, I tend to think about "dynamic" "organic" "sparkle" etc... In the first 2 minutes of playing it, I could tell the PPF is very different from any of the other BJFE drive I have owned in that it is capable of being more compressed.

We all know that Bjorn is clearly at the top of the game when it comes to pedals and right out of the gate I can tell I'm going to really enjoy playing the PPF. It will be another month or two (I'm guessing) before I have Cornish drives back on my board, but I can see how this and the G2 will be very interesting next to each other.

I'll be sure to post more as I tinker. Aloha :mailbox it's a good day!

Very cool - I've got the one you demo'd... I really think folks who like the Cornish G2 or P2 would really like the PPF and it can get into nasty fuzz with humbuckers.

PPF is excellent in how brown and nasty it can get. If you sag it, the PPF is full of splat!

Enjoy your PPF. I play through mine almost every day.

Glad it made it there, and glad to hear you are diggin it:)

What I liked was dropping the Voltage nice and low, and hitting it with a hot signal, or upping the voltage and throwin a Tele on it. The PPF is an animal, and really changes with Voltage, but my favorite was low voltage, and hitting it with hot pickups into a PGC set as a boost then slam the hell out of that PPF.

Enjoy that PPF, and tinker the hell out of it, it has so many different sounds in it.

The PPF nature knob doesn't seem to follow typical "nature" knob behavior and is more akin to the way the CAF can become a different pedal from very subtle tweeking. Based on initial experience, I think it covers a very broad range of OD, Distortion, and Fuzz with it's strength in the Distortion/Fuzz thing.

I agree Donnel. I would definitely call the PPF a true desert island dirt pedal due to the wide range it covers.

My favorite way to use the PPF is to drop my strat's volume knob down a couple notches to 7 or 8 and then play bar chords- gives me a JCM 800 type of crunch when playing bar chords.
With this setting it's perfect for blasting power chords Johnny Ramone style!
PPF sounds more of a distortion than a fuzz this way and its versatility is what keeps it on my pedalboard!
I even risked taking it with me when I played in South America in April because I just needed that sound!
Luckily it made it through in my checked luggage. It helps to have your suitcases encased in that plastic wrap that the guys at the airport charge ten bucks for
Although TSA DID rifle through my stuff.
I am amazed that they didn't pull me over when they found my Barber Dirty Bomb in my stash of pedals! :lolno:

i liked that PPF a lot -- a very different flavor of fuzz compared to the CAF and SWF -- very nice flavor :love4

glad it has made a home on the islands with you!

Thanks BobbyD - I hope you are hanging in there okay!

Pushed the voltage up to 12v this weekend and really liked how it tightened things up a little.
