I'd be in for a kit if this does get enough people together to happen. Much as its cool to have something I put together, and my attempt at painting has its own weird kinda character, it'd be nice to put one of these into a box that looked nice too.

With the Aussie dollar the way it is at the moment I'd be looking at $300 for boxes and finishing parts including shipping for two pedals,
so, er, I guess I will give up on that idea.

I think I would be best off going cheap (unfinished boxes) and using the money to buy another BJF!

Thanks for the offer to do it though Donner :D

The drop in the Aussie Dollar has killed the idea of having any gear fun at all... It was so good to be alive before that...

Hi,

I can say this that when the Folk Fuzz 3,5% was presented in FUZZ magazine one reader had made a calculation of what the parts would cost for just one unit and that with wiring on a piece of perfboard and no paint and the total sum was something like 184 USD for the parts which included all necessary hardware aswell as parts. It di show that the mechanics would be a whole lot more expensive than the components while those transistors were not exactly on the cheap side either.
Note this was for just one pedal.

Now partsprices would be a whole lot cheaper in USA than in Sweden.

I would not know but maybe there are suppliers in Australia that can provide the parts for less?

Ahum

Well let's have fun anyway

Yeah, there's no problem getting the parts, probably from the USA as the choice is wider, it was the box I was mainly interested in.

When I roughly worked out the cost of doing the painting - couple of colours plus clear coat, something for labels, sand paper and boxes
I started thinking Lucibox because I'm crap at painting, and then a Donnerbox became an option, but with the falling dollar it
is better that I do something cheap on my own, because the box doesn't have to be beautifully painted. I can always change it later.

BJ, I would guess that guys like you and Donner think painting a box is very easy, well, you've forgotten how much skill, experience
and knowledge you guys have compared to someone like me who has never built a pedal before! :D

Cheers

Mmmm, that could be the case in the very short term but not much longer. All of the parts in Australia are imported from Asia the USA etc, etc. We don't have any manufacturing companies making electronics stuff here. However, the Australian Dollar has dropped 35% against the US Dollar (making Australian goods cheap for USA/Europe companies and making imported goods very expensive for Australians). So, I would say that the imported electronics items already in Australia will be cheap here until they have to purchase new stocks from Asia/USA. So, I would say they would be cheap for outsiders for the next month or so.. Soon the local people will have to reprice everything to match their new imported cost.

I agree :-) Also, a lot of us live in apartments and soldering and painting is a no, no...

Hi,

It might be so that after may years of working a trade things may go more or less on their own accord.
I have learnt a lot in terms of painting and yes I thought I sucked real hard at painting, while yes I have had training since I was 16 years-in those days painting in nitro something not possible today.
Painting nitro with a brush is a major pain and something like this that first you apply the paint and then sand down until surface is smooth and then with liquid sand work up the gloss

Right thank you for the good words andyes I understand also about painting in an apartment.
Sprayguns are outof the question but handpainting can be done and if there's interest I'll be willing to show some techniques? I would then show how to apply paint when living in an apartment.......
Yes I have done that too

It does sound like a plan for you in Australia to try to get parts locally within a month and before partsprices go up, maybe that would save a bit?

It does seem a rather hefty decrease in Aus.Dollars compared to USD- I can see that puts a lid on many fun things as it has here too :(

Yes I can see the Lucyboxes and those are pretty- I have no idea what they cost though?
Also what a Donnerbox would cost is for Don to answer.

If possible I'd like to make this project fun for everyone and hopefully provide solutions also for boxes.

Have fun
BJ
