Hi Everyone!

I'm one of guys who have listen to this new "Low Gain" Pedal during all tweaks and
I really have to say that I'm in love with this one!
I'm already a huge fan of the "Honey Bee" and I think that the new one will be a BIG seller
Just after 1 or 2 seconds I started play blues I was blown away!
This one reminds me of B.B. King's Album "Blues is king" from the late 60's and
I was playing a Strat with classic single coils!

The Pedal have a lot of "string", Single notes sounds BIG, tight bass, open Treble that doesn't sound like an Ice Pick in you ear.
Great chord separation.
It also works great with Humbuckers, P-90's...
It works great with different kind of amps.
Great for rhythm and the Lead tone really sings!!!
(even on low gain settings like 9-10 o'clock)

This Pedal got more gain than the Honey Bee, less than Little Green Wonder.

Congratulation you (B.B., Albert) King lovers out there
But it will also work great for Classic rock players I think.

That is so weird. I have been on the lookout for a low-gain blues-type of pedal for the past couple of months. I have tried lots of things but nothing has quite stuck with me yet. I am going to be fascinated to hear how this new pedal sounds. Perfect timing from BJ once again Can I buy one now, he, he

Maybe a stupid question, but what is the difference between a low gain overdrive and a regular overdrive with the gain set low/medium?

Hi Eskimo Joe!

It's not a stupid question, maybe a little hard to explain.
Sometimes a regular OD have the "Sweet Spot" with higher gain settings and can
be too mellow at low gain settings I think.
Maybe Björn could give you a better answer.

HI,

Well, that's a very valid question what the difference would be between a low gain overdrive and an overdrive or other distortion device set for low gain.

I do try to make a low gain sound available in several models as in also some of the fuzzes and the distortions.

Honey Bee though is more of a specific low gain pedal and it really pays of to strike hard and use heavy pick ups to be rewarded with distortion.

This prototype is not a honey bee but shares some of the qualities like the dynamic range but this one has a 'carrying ' midrange for lack of better word and it has a control besides Volume and Drive, that I have yet to find a name for as it controls a 'guitar frequency' as it would be termed in recording and mixing-this does affect distortionlevel but also puts the guitar back and forth in the mix. It's not a simple tonecontrol or it would be easy to name.

Why specifically calling this a lowgain overdrive stems from feedback during prototyping where one guy asked for more distortion and the string guys asked for more string and also this remark that a good low gain OD would be the hardest to make while also likely the most useful to a lot of people..........well if that's so.........yes it does seem that way.

Perhaps it's also this that a guitarist would ask more more distortion and if distortion can be had?

Ahum, and through the years I have also asked mysel that if a low gain distortion sound wouldbe wanted why not just set the preamp gain of the amp higher?

The answer of course would be that some amps control both preamp gain and outputlevl with just one control and the may be volume restrictions at venues.

Well I also know one guy who has an array of Fender amps so he can run his amps with Volume set at 6 regardless of venue by just picking the right model from a champ to the Backing Elvis 4x12 120W combo.

Ah, butnot all have that luxuary;)


Very specific again was to define what a lowgain sound for guitar would mean.

I'd think there is not a great guitar sound without some distortion while some sounds have distortion levels that are heard more like shimmer and most peole would call that clean.
If you want really clean you might aswell play through the Stereo;)

Oh yes one could use a booster to heat up the preamp on those one volume amps but againthat might require Volume to be set at a specific point. There is one amp though that was specifically built to fit one booster pedal- but there's only one that I know of.

So again what would be low gain with a variety of guitars and avariety of amplifiers?

Ahum, I had to call in some guitarists that could help me define this by playing and telling what they'd like to hear.

Another object of this prototype was to make an overdrive that would both make a low gain overdrive sound through channel 1 of MP101 and make a complement to channel 2 for really high gain sounds on MP101 preferably at the same settings.

I would say I am pleased with having all these targets fullfilled.

To further define what this prototype is and does I am thinking a unit could be tourboxed.
