Reverb, No Reverb, or Echo/Delay?

I would be curious to know what you guys are using with amps that don't come with reverb?

- Reverb tank/pedal
- Nothing
- echo/delay

Background - I'm getting an amp head sans reverb. I was thinking about selling my Victoria Reverberato to offset cost, but then I don't have any reverb. I've gone without and not missed it, but now that I've grown used to it, I hate thinking about not having it. I've heard some people prefer a short delay over reverb. Would love to get some feedback.

I love 'verb pedals... I run a Hardwire RV-7 into the Dr. Scientist RRR. Its heavenly. I'm going to be trying the boss RV-3 pretty soon too and I hear its got some cool features. The Line 6 Verbzilla has the "spaciest" sounds but like most L6 stuff it just sounds fake to me.

The RRR is the best reverb pedal I've played, but its still digital (though it doesn't sound like it, at all)... if you need that classic amp 'verb though a spring tank like the demeter reverbulator or sole-mate would be awesome I'm sure.

I love delay... but I wouldn't substitute it for reverb. they are so wonderful together though

I've had my eye on a Hardwire for months, but I have never found a Reverb that I thought was up to par. I like a subtle to mid level Hall setting to provide some ambience. my primarily verb replacement to add space to the signal has been a setting on my DL4 that I wrote all the way back in 2003. Like it so much I haven't ever changed it. It is a mid tempo delay on the analog preset I think, very subtle in the mix. gives me just enough space, and the tap tempo can let me adjust it to be even less in your face if I need. I'd love a reverb that worked for me though- RV5, Verbzilla, Holy Grail (& er & est grail), marshall reflector, Dr Scientist RRR has all came and went, nothing ever makes the cut for me live. sigh...

How are you running this guy - loop, or with your other pedals at the end of the chain?
What's the headroom like on it if you're running it with the other pedals?
Can it handle the output from your ES?

i use the DBD in my amps loop and works great for reverb effect. plus it can double as a delay if I needed it to.
Set up is small and simple yet effective if you dont need a ton of reverb effect.

I find that reverb or echo is more of an occasional spice for me. Onstage, I find that I prefer nothing/dry overall for most cut, punch, and clarity. Time-based effects tend to wash things out too much for me if one is not careful.

That said, I've never liked anything better than the MP Deep Blue Delay for that added spice to an anthemic, hero guitar solo. The DBD can also be set subtly enough to be left on all the time like a traditional reverb tank ... but sounds much better to my ears.

This is all great feedback. I will have to experiment a bit with delay in this context. I've never really used it as a reverb substitute, but it seems like a fair number of people do. Cool!
