an interesting thread on TGP regarding "barracuda" flanger

Postby Bobby D » Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:03 am

So......from the 70s, Roger Fisher, guitarist from Heart, had been one of my biggest influences. He was hard rocking, but very textural, with great feel and tone. I don't think that anyone can argue that "Magic Man", "Barracuda", "Crazy on You", "Mistral Wind", and dozens of other songs were very beautiful and original works.....and I have been lucky to be friends with Roger ever since he came back to the USA after living in Czech for many years after being kicked out of his own band.

Here is the REAL story of that flanger used on Barracuda. It's partly MY fault. When I saw it was going to be called "The Howard Leese Signature Model BARRACUDA FLanger", I nearly blew a gasket.

read the thread for yourself. Luckily, the guy who MADE THE ORIGINAL UNITS got called by Roger, and he joined TGP just to set the record straight.

Interesting thread for any of you interested in one of the most famous flanges ever put on record:

Yikes, this thread is a bit controversial!

I recently scored one of those Hi-Band Flangers for about $55 and it's not half bad - I can only tolerate light depth on the effect though.

yeah.......just a LITTLE controversial.

but as i told Donner, i will GO TO BAT for any of those i love and respect, and Roger is one of those people.

so are BJ and Donner.

and Roger may be trying some MP/BJF soon......being as he was one of the most creative textural and effects-laden guitarists of the 70s, I will be interested to hear his feedback.

well, let me say this right here....

i am not going back to the gear page, or harmony central any more.

although there are a LOT of cool people on both places, the PLETHORA of idiots, a$$holes, racists, ignorant gear penis swingers, and their ilk...

and yes, it was satisfying to see that particular thread get resolved to the TRUTH.

but i have learned something. after being online since 1980 (my father worked for COntrol Data, and we had a hard wired ARPANET terminal in our HOUSE.....i was one of the first members of Compuserve, one of the first on AOL, and I ran my parent's phone bill up astronomically with my commodore 64 using a modem to "hack" into systems all over the world).

I am better serving myself by PRACTICING, by spending time with Professor Tomo's DVD, by writing and playing and recording.

I am going to post a "goodbye" thread to both TGP and HC, and I wish them all the best.

I will STILL BE HERE, but I am not telling any of the TGP or HC people that. I want this place to stay small like family.......

and a positive thing about that "barracuda thread".

i may be going to seattle to co-write and record a couple of songs with ROGER F%&CKING FISHER.

to me, that is the same as being asked to Electric Lady by Jimi.......i know that may sound crazy, but Roger was as much an influence to me as Jimi, as Eric, as Carlos, etc......

more will be revealed.....

yeah the detering part of tgp is the threads that stray from the original question. lots of unbacked opinions.
I asked-Anyone try the toadworks flanger? apparently not, but everyone had something to say about it rather than just a simple no. Now the thread is all about a name, not a pedal or sound it makes.
Its more fitting of a pub thread now than a effects thread. I thought about deleting it, but there is some interesting info among all the negativity.
btw there is some valuable info on tgp,,just have to do alot of sifting thru to find it these days. 8)

well, i liked that thread.

what really left a bad taste in my mouth was the thread that I MADE regarding the carlos santana article in dec 2008 guitar player magazine, and also the thread on whether "prince could play guitar or not"

the only people i respect on those forums are the ones who post as THEMSELVES, people like Tomo, Ed Degenaro, etc. Donner....analog mike...skreddy.....and so many more.

But i had to ask myself........what would serve me better?

to post on those forums, or to do as ZAPPA said and "shut up and play yer guitar"?????

I will stay here. This is where I like to be. And I have nothing but love for everyone, whether they agree with me or not.....

didnt mean to offend, sorry if I did, I like the thread too, cool history, which seems in thanks to you for bring it to the front.
but it didnt necessarily answer the thread question. I guess it doesnt matter to me enough thats why I didnt respond. I just want a flanger to play. 8)

Maybe I should have titled it--'Looking for Flanger,Please share your personal experience with them '
Anyway, thanks for the good info,,

still looking for a flanger :D
