Here's a thought... Custom Shop pedals are not made available until they have been thoroughly reviewed as part of a tour box. We know the reviews are un-biased because nobody has any skin in the game. Then drawing/contest winners can read the reviews to decide if the pedal will work for them. They should also be asked (required?) to offer for sale here first at the price they paid. If it has not sold within a week, they are free to go open market.

right thats the whole point of doing open research ( we used to do it t hru clandestine tourboxes , and isolated feedback also has its value as you get a pure opinion )

but yeah in many cases the most effective tool is the lest variable - like with t he Model R that pedal just kills t hru certain rigs and is total crap in others thats because it is built to satisfy a certain set of needs and to truly satisfy them it has to be useless in others .....

so yeah the open group research has to be honest or its worthless, and theres no reason to do it if it doesnt help work any bugs out beforehand...

maybe someone should start a new thread in the discussion area

EJ made a review "template" some time ago which seems to work very well. A lot of people started using it or at least some rendition of it.

If I recall correctly, a lot of those who tested the Sparkling Yellow OD found it "trebly" and most were pretty straight up when they said it might be too bright for "bright rigs". In fact, the Sparkling Orange was circulated for comparison then Bjorn even offered up a one time change for anyone that wanted it.

I only have one rig so can't really provide good comparison information for others with a differnet set up. I can, however, take Donner's advice and try to learn to listen more for the nuances with various settings. I still owe a Model H review but haven't had much time of late with a recent job change. I do very much enjoy reading everyone's comments.

I will say that finding something really wrong with one of BJ's pedals is like trying to find something wrong with ice cream!!

That brings up a good point. I think it is important to know what the "target" or "purpose" of the pedal is before it is reviewed. I read that a lot of people thought that the SYOD was a bit too bright for their amps. However, I loved it exactly because it was bright (because that reflected my personal need at the time). In fact, on one or two amps I have I wouldn't mind if the SYOD had a bit more bite to it. If the stated purpose of the SYOD was to "make a bright kind of pedal that could be used on most amps" then yes, the SYOD is a bit too bright for that purpose. However, if the stated purpose of the SYOD is to "make a bright kind of pedal that can give an edge to a dark amp" then the SYOD fits and indeed could have a bit more brightness added to it. With the R&D pedals it may be good to know what BJ is trying to do and then the reviewers could state if the pedal meets those goals or not. Otherwise, if the pedals are just handed out with "what do you think of this" then there is a danger that the review process will lose focus and the end result will always be the same kind of pedals. Just a thought..

Hi
What I try to do?

I read and learn and try to never interfere in a negative way and to only interfere in an effort to help or aid ..........and welcome any honest and open view

The bottomline though is that you all are my well that tells me things often involving amps I may never hear as those may be only present in other countries and might never enter Sweden, but I use what you tell me and what I know of amplifiers to try to understand and in this my pedals are also spies that report on various things...........

For this feedback I am thankfull and the help you have given

Benevolently and sincerely yours
BJ

Whatever the frustrations that might accompany the process itself, I think we can all agree that we love being part of it, and consider it a privilege to play such fine pedals. BJFs are the best! Thanks for all that you do Bjorn!
