I'll piggy back upon what others have said here. I've been mostly offline for the last couple months, but should be back online (checking in with more regularity) hopefully pretty soon.
That said, I did get a chance to try the SOOD myself. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to gig with it ... so I can't comment on how it fares in a live mix as compared to the SYOD (of which I have the Amber prototype).
I agree with much of what's been said here, that the SOOD is likely a more versatile "stand alone" OD that many would prefer if they could only pick one.
However, the SYOD has a uniqueness to its voicing that is very different from any other OD I've tried. In a band mix, it is indeed most impressive as it cuts through in a most pleasing way like none other.
I personally wouldn't make the change either. I really like the way my OD cuts through the band mix. I really do think the SOOD is an excellent pedal, and I'd likely by one if I didn't already have my SYOD/Amber. If I could choose, though, I'd pick the original Yellow circuit.
