I decided to start this thread since I was hijacking another thread

I like that name...

I didn't know that the HB favored p-90's or HB's? Where is a good spot for the Nature knob to get a thicker rhthym drive with a tele. The dynamics are there in spades, but it seems a little brighter than I had anticipated(the EGDM is darker than what I remembered my first one being too). Sorry for the irrelevent pedal post

Turn the HB nature knob from Noon to t he left to fatten it up...the HB was designed on P90s (BJs favortie pickup)

Remember the EGDM has a trimmer inside for the treble

I don't know if the EGDM needs to be brighter, or If I'm just not used to the type of compression it puts on. My first one seemed brighter and more aggressive, this one while not as in your face does put in more of a cranked Voxy flavor...almost Brian May-like on it's own sans treble boost. If I do tweak the internal trimmer...which way should I turn to add a little more treble/upper mids/sparkle(?). Sorry again for the thread jack.

The treble change on the EGDM internal trimmer should be fairly obvious, also what numer is yours ?? Do you remember the number of your other one ???

also the Voice control rolls off a bit of treble as it goes up - like Vox amp does after it slips into distortion - so you may want to also roll the voice control back to bring back some treble and then adjust the trimmer at the same time....... there quite a bit of vriation available...... yeah i gues this could be a different thread eh? maybe you shold start one on EGDM tweekage and usage ....

My previous EGD was either 74 or 75, I did buy it used, I can't remember if the previous owner was using another type of amp (Fender flavored as opposed to Vox flavored like I use). My new EGD is 186.

I'm not trying to complain, just was curious. I'm actually more fond of the tamer version of the EGD I have now. This just caught me off guard because I was thinking I was getting the more aggressive brighter drive of my previous. The drive on my new one actually seems thicker and I can hear the Voxy mid creaminess. I played with it the other night, and found a setting that I'm content with. I need to get this into a full band situation stat.

I'm using the EGD in chain that includes an RRB>EGD>HB>SBEQ. I use the RRB not as a level boost, but it adds that extra oomph to get make things fuller. The HB seems to make things little more separated (more toothy?) and brings the roar in and I'm still trying to find the best way to apply the SBEQ, I'm finding the SBEQ and RRB as a great base clean sound...and add HB for rhthym.

I've had some intial help, and always looking for more applications. Especially since it seems that some new band situations are getting me away from the rootsy alt.country I've been playing for the last couple of years into more of a punky indie rock pop with a little folk vibe.

Would running the EGDM at a higher voltage put some more sparkle into it or open it up...add presence? Right now I have a 9v battery in there.

might be worthwhile getting a power supply :) Something to run varying voltages...and not rely on batteries...especially awesome for my battery sucking TR-2!

EGDM...how much gain?

Postby Realfi » Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:08 pm

How gainy is the EGDM?

The idea of it appeals to me as many say that it's Voxy but I'm a little scared off by the "distortion" tag.

Also, bottom end characteristics? Attenuate...boost...even?

AAAahhH....... dont let it scare ya
you dial in the trebtrimpot to the rig, or you can leave it alone. I turned it down just a scoash for a little itty bitty bit of warmth, ats gots some nice bootom end girth. to me, its a "thick" OD with lots of gain on tap.
it dont sparkle like my syod

Ah yes...see the SYOD was a bit bright for me.

How much more gain does that EGDM have compared say the SYOD or is it similar?

I'd say it can get pretty distorted, like murkat said, it does add some girth and oomph...and I also noticed it adds a nice throaty honk.

Alas, I had to let mine be sacrificed...again.
