I'm not using my DRD!

I'm not using my DRD. It's a great sounding distortion but, for some reason, I don't use it which tells me that I am not getting the "sound" I'm looking for. I've heard many (DocRock particularly) say it's a great Arena Rock pedal so maybe I'm not into Arena Rock ... I thought I was or maybe I don't know what Arena Rock really means - Doc, help me here.

Anyway, I am looking for suggestions as to some nifty stacks to try out. Here are the BJF pedals I have currently:

PGC
BBOD
LGW
DRD
RRB
Honey Bee
SBEQ
DBD

I use my John Suhr Classic mostly with a Speedster 25W amp (a Deluxe Reverb clone).

I'm looking for a real sweet sustain more suited to Blues or BluesRock. I used to have a PPF which I stacked into the DRD and it gave me an awesome sound but in my infinite wisdom, I decided that I had too many OD pedals and sold it.

Sooooo, out of the BJF pedals I have, what is a good stack with the DRD for that great, creamy, smooth, fat, sustaining tone?

or try turning the drive down on the DRD and putting the PGC on either side of it.....

The amp is a Speedster Deluxe 25 watt. It's basically a Fender Deluxe Reverb clone. (http://www.speedsteramps.com/speedster2 ... -high.html)

It has an Eminence speaker in it.

I'll try the RRB into the DRD. I usually drive the HB with my RRB ... never thought to drive the DRD with the RRB.

Hi Jim,

For the tone you're describing, I'd say you don't really need a stack. The BBOD should be able to get your bluesy-rocky sweetness all on its own. Even the LGW by itself would do it, I would think. Or try running your amp to the point where it's breaking up pretty good on its own, then hit it with the RRB set to about 1:00.

That oughta do it.

I don't think the DRD is the right pedal for the tones you're now saying you want. If you must find a use for it, thought, try backing off on the distortion and bringing up the volume. Try volume 2:00, treble 10:00, distortion about 9:00. These are all approximate settings that you can tune to your amp / guitar.

Still ... BBOD or LGW should be able to give you your creamy sweetness on their own, with no real need for a stack (unless you really want to have a stack).

You're absolutely right, my BBOD has the best creamy blues sustain I've ever heard. I think I'm trying to talk myself into keeping the DRD. I'll play with it some more but maybe I'll sell it and get a SBOD. I've heard very good things about that pedal.

My DRD is in brand new condition. I should be able to get enough for it to fund another BJF pedal

Absolutely. The SBOD is damn special ... I've played a couple prototypes, both by BJ and by MP. I think the SBOD is gonna be the one that REALLY puts MP Pedals on the map.
