I agree with Zion, I have both and you really have to try to hear the difference. 99% the same IMO.

I believe it has a different drive or nature pot that presents the distortion differences better- I remember liking the MP a little better becuase of this........ cometo think of it I think this was a a difference between the early BJF LGWs and the later ones and the later BJF ones are just like the MP interrnally.....
And opamp swapping is also useful... 8)

lI remembered that BJ had discussed this a bit ago. Here's his answer from BJ's corner:

"Hi,

The LGW started out with LF 353, and later with a second option of TLC272 but as some extra chips were destroyed, LGW was supplied stock with TLC272.

There were two reasons for the option IC :
Firstly while LF 353 would be prefered for highest headroom, LF 353 also requires maintained voltage preferably not below 8V's and so a an option was sought to work down to lower voltages.

Slight complexity in distortion was also considered desirable and this the TLC 272 would provide.

After about 40 units the Value of the Body pot was changed to give smoother taper.

The MP LGW is made like the last revision of LGW and pe3rhaps the one I was most pleased with.

Thank you for your interest"

so, with the MP LGw, you can swap chips... (?)

This is why i am curious in regrds to the LGW. I have my original T-S9 for almost 30 years. I love what it does> singing sustain and smooth distortion. I dont care for the mid hump, almost compressedness of it, but it is tollarable (because I am so use to it?)...... I love how the HBOD adds, enhances what I want in my tone. And from what I read, The LGW could bump off my old trusty T-S9 off the board.... yes? BTW, I have tried alot of T-S9's over the years and nothing comes close to tone and richness like the one I have, weird huh.

Yes - LGW is the one BJF that uses an opamp and it comes with a socketed opamp so you can use different chips for different qualities, if you want it to clearer for boosting duties a Tl082 or 072 is a great swap, and many more...

The LGW is BJs entry in the world Tube Screamer competition
I believe once he said he changed every part or value except one, and it focused on better headroom , and distortion complexity and a smoother EQ with the body knob that gives a different Eq adjustment than normal, and with some bottom control......

but yeah if you love TSs but want a more naturl feel and response you would likely dig the LGW
