BJFE LGW w/internal treble knob - anyone else got one?

Postby cbpickin » Sun Oct 16, 2016 1:15 am

I picked up an LGW from Donner to replace the one I sold years ago, but I have never had one with the internal treble knob. I haven't messed with it yet, but I'm curious how it interacts with the body knob. I only get a brighter tone on the last quarter turn counter-clockwise on the body knob. I'm wondering if the treble pot will affect the the body knob's range, or if it is entirely independent treble control.

Any other users out there?

What is your serial nr? Mine is 075 but doesn't have a trimmer.. I like it as is

The chip can be swapped too I guess..

Hi there,

That unit cb, is the only one ever made as an experiment.

It is made for those who'd like a slightly brighter sound than LGW standard would make and how bright can be set via the trimmer
Of course then the Body control would work differently.

If you are looking for the standard LGW response this is not the unit, but if you are looking for something one of a kind and would seem at home with the description above then this is your unit.

Bjorn,

Thanks for the response. I already bought the pedal and have tried it out for a couple of weeks now. I was trying to replace an LGW I had years ago.

1. Is there a setting on the trimmer that would be similar to the standard LGW?
2. I haven't adjusted the internal trimmer yet, but do you know where it is set when you ship it?
3. Does turning up the internal trim pot, just brighten up the whole travel of the body knob overall?

I am a little confused also about the body control on this one. The last quarter turn CCW seems to really brighten up the pedal, but I don't here much change on the rest of the dial. Any insight on how the body knob should respond on this unit?

Thanks again,
Chris

Hi there,

Ah, I think I may have set the trimmer rather high on the special LGW in order to draw attention to that this is a different beast. The trimmer allows treble unprocessed so to say as compared with the standard LGW that has a lowpass filter first and then treble can be boosted via the Body control.

Now setting the trimmer just at critical treble for the amp used gives a little different response compared to what the standard LGW would do at seamingly the same treble content and that has to do with how sound is processed via the filters.

Due to that treble is let through via the trimmer, that in technical terms converts the lowpass filter in LGW to a staircase filter, I felt having treble boost as well on Body control would be too much. :phew

Try turning the trimmer to fully cutting treble and then open trimmer slightly to desirable shimmer.

However it might be so that the stock LGW is more your cup of tea and I made also another special version with the ganged controls on LGW in the Body control brought out on two potentiometers giving Treble and Bass- and you got a music style right there ;) :music

Let me know how that works and let’s see how we can make you a happy camper.
