Hi,
The new amp is model MP101. This is a 101W head, featuring two channels that are selectable via footswitch, each with its own volume and master and a common four control eq for both channels and a loop.
The sounds of the channels are pretty much preset but allows easy settings from clean to heavily distorted.
First channel can be set from clean to medium distortion sufficient for classic rock and channel two goes beyond that into dense distortion.
There's not so much finetuning allowed mostly eq for setting to speakers, but 101Watts of power and two sounds setable for selection on footswitch.
Thus addressing the following points:
Channel switching, sequence: clean /distorted or distorted/distorted
Power to play really loud
Easy controls
Pcb construction for swifter build time in larger series made in a factory in Finland
I have been working on this one through the whole 2007, getting a range of the volume controls on the channels to allow a range of sounds and also put test guitarist through this one playing jazz, fushion, rockabilly, funk, rock, punk and heavymetal.
I guess then the question would be how the MP101 compares to MP CS-40?
While on CS-40 a lot of control is given to one channel so that many different sounds can be built,MP101 has two essentially preset channels, and eq section on MP101 allows mostly finetuning the preset sounds
While CS-40 allows level shifts and gain shift seperately to its one channel,MP101 has a volume control and master per channel.
While CS-40 allows setting the level in the loop, MP 101 has a loop positioned after the Mastervolumes.
While CS-40 allows many tube types to be used and easily biased on top of amplifierchassis, MP101 has measuring points inside and a bias pot inside.
While CS-40 has five controls over poweramp, MP101 has just a presence control but MP101 has more than twice the outputpower of CS-40.
While CS-40 has a fairly uncompressed feel of high definition, the MP101 has gainlevels in the preamp enough to give it a slightly compressed feel while yet having transient power.
While CS-40 takes on any pedal you can throw at it, MP101 is more intended to be played as is with maybe modulation and echo in the loop..........
One of the test guitarists said high powered amplifiers usually get very loud and so loud that it's hard to tell if sound is good........
Yes I know what that means and with MP101 I tried to make the point of that it should sound good regardless and you should be able to tell even at earshattering levels.
All testguitarists commented on how much fun the MP101 was to play, while one said he knows why CS-40 always cuts through on stage and with the pricelevel intended for MP101 I gather a few CS-40 owners will get an MP101 to complement
I think personally that the MP101 sort of does sounds in circles around the CS-40, meaning the other sounds.... a different feel and yes I 'll get myself one of those MP101's.
I can set up the sounds with pedals and CS-40 and dial any sound I could desire with that, but I think MP101 will appeal to a wider audience.
Something that many ask is can you play loud and clean with this amp?
Yes you can with MP101 and clean enough for funk rythms, loud enough to flap the pants.
OK crisp and clean? Hehe, not trebleboost but balancing distortion at so low levels it appears as shimmer this gives the compressed feel of 30W amp played as loud as it goes at the brink of distortion but with the power of an in excess of 100W amplifier.
There's a clean sound I have in my head, one that is in between strong, fullbodied like a jumbo guitar,
in amplifier terms that people relate to inbetween a VOX AC-30 and a Fender Super Reverb, but not like either
not piercing but bright, just below where treble hurts the ears
Though this this is a powerful amplifier it can also play well at low levels aswell.Yes you can have fun in the bedroom aswell if you like
I'll be demoing this one myself at NAMM 2008.
Also for NAMM the following MP pedal models will be at display
LGW
MRD
DBD
Mellow Yellow Tremolo
Tiny Orange Phaser
Sky Blue OD
Fire Red Fuzz
All should be in stock late January
There are more MP pedal models coming and likely those will appear at Frankfurt.
Have fun
BJ
Oh and there's a smaller combo amp in the works but it may come sometime 2008
