BBOD 4K - is this normal? - Bjorn Please Help!!!

Postby dalong » Sun Mar 20, 2016 10:43 am

OK, so here's my setup: I play a strat on a clean fender blackface deluxe reverb, volume 5, treble 6, bass 4, HBOD>LGW>Model D, and recently I just got my brand new BBOD4K from bearfoot.com and stacked it in between the HBOD and LGW.

And now here's what I find weird about my BBOD4K (SERIAL#FT6354K):

When all other pedals are off, guitar volume all the way up, and with the BBOD4K even when the drive is turned off and volume at minimum (for example 0-12 from minimum to maximum: volume 1, drive 0, treble 6, bass 6) I get max distortion, or a fuzz tone. And if i turn up the vol (V0>6, D0, T6, B6), it just gets louder and louder with the fuzz tone, and if i roll the drive knob up (V6, D0>12, T6, B6), i tend to get a tad bit noise and it increases the touch sensitivity, but it still gives that full up fuzz tone and no "drive" is either added or reduced.

I compared it with the Model D, which, also got 4 knobs, they work quite differently. For instance: on the model D, if i turn up the volume and leave the drive off, i can get it work like a clean boost (so can my HBOD and LGW), and if i roll the drive knob up on the Model D, i can hear a clear change in tone as in it fattens up more and more. But with BBOD4K, the "drive" does not seem to response.

The only way I can get my BBOD4K work like other pedals is to clean up the volume knob on my guitar, as the more i clean up, the cleaner the tone, at this point, when the volume is cleaned up (Vol at 4-5ish), however, if i turn the "drive" knob up on the BBOD4K, the drive still does not seem to response.

Is this how the BBOD4K supposed/designed to be? or Is there something wrong with the Drive knob?

Any answer is highly appreciated!!!

Shocked you haven't received a response yet. I don't have a 4kBBOD (just the standard) and from my experience, this is not normal. The only reason I would think you'd have this kind of response is if your guitar was too high output and since you're not having any problems with the MD, that would appear to not be the case. Best advice would be to contact Donner and Bearfoot to have it resolved. Good luck.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
