Anyone using a Bearfoot PPF?

Just wondering. I never had the chance to play a Bjorn made PPF, so I am really excited! Trouble is I just made room for the CAF on my board (along with the black arts Sarcophagus) and I am finding it very versatile since the gods added a treble control. Maybe it is time to design my Jam pedal board as I still have some aged baltic birch plywood. I can probably add the Jam board into my current wiring and use it as a non-elevated front row.

This is where being at the end of the postal route really, really sucks!

If you could do me a favor please check the community forum and give me your opinion on the guitar I posted.

While I have been liking my PPF for home practice I got the chance to jam with some people today and the PPF was the star of the jam! Whether is was playing slide on my Telemaster or doing a Hendrix medley with my GCG Strat, complete with full on Woodstock sound effects, it was just so perfect at every setting!

When things were winding down the host of the jam had me try some Gibson & PRS guitars (I think he is worried about how high my action is with 11 -50s and that I haven't even played a humbucker equipped guitar for over 10 years) and even the humbuckers were controllable with the volume knob! I use the Volume, Tone and Switches on my guitars a lot for different sounds and I have always disliked how humbuckers get so muddy and mushy when you back the Volume knob back a bit. I am actually considering either PAFs on a Telemaster or WRHB on just about anything.

Go directly to the Bearfoot store and buy a PPF now!

I had posted these thoughts on TGP on 4/28/13, but I figured I'd copy and paste them here as well:

I just gigged with the new PPF last night, plus I also have a new CAF. Both pedals are entirely complimentary. I actually have my CAF dialed in for the octave/mayhem/end of the world tone. I use the PPF for more "traditional" fuzz tone. Kinda Tonebendery, kinda Fuzz Facey. I used it for a lot of my default dirt. Yes, it can be dialed in for some overdrive feel. Yes, it plays a bit easier than some fuzzes. But sonically, it is most definitely a fuzz pedal. Make no mistake. High gain, low noise. Ferocious (but completely useable) if you want.

For chord work, it was loud and proud. Really excels at giving you high gain while maintaining the traditional fuzz shape to the sound. Single note lines are beefy and expressive. Tasty artificial harmonics. Roll off the volume knob on the guitar, and you get a little bit more gritty overdrive, and some of the fuzz character is tamed a bit.

Classic rock through 90's alternative are all at home here. Here's a list of tunes we did where I used PPF for all of my dirt, and it sounded completely appropriate tonally, and was simply a joy to play:

For leads, I used a Baby Pink Booster at the end simply to punch myself in for a bit more volume. At certain points, the tone and feel reminded me of Billy Gibbons, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix ... but also sounded spot on for newer stuff. I really loved it.

Guitar is a Linhof Tele-style, amp is a Louis Electric KR12 combo set loud and clean, running through a UK Celestion Vintage 30.

How does the BF PPF and CAF clean up with the guitar volume compared to BJF? I always loved the sound of my BJF's, but both the PPF and the CAF frustrated me on that point. I could have lived with that (who cares about clean sounds? ), but I found that they couldn't maintain enough treble to the crunchy sound when the guitar vol was lowered.

This frustrated me enough to sell both, which was a shame, because they had the exact sound I wanted. If they hade cleaned upå like my AWF, I never would have sold them. Ever.

And as you can see, I haven't been able to let go. Therapy needed?

Depending on your pickups, I guess, they can be set to clean up, or not! Donner says the CAF, at least, has a bit more gain than the BJFE and I tend to run mine around 4 o'clock (Fuzz) most of the time and I do get nice clean up with my vintage single coils.

I never got to try a BJFE PPF though it is easy to run the Fuzz between 2 and 3 o'clock for certain clean up. The tricky thing with the PPF though, for me, is if I am running the amp half-way up or more I need to turn the fuzz further back than when the amp is clean at lower volumes.

There are a few who think the BF CAF lacks enough high end and from what I remember of my BJFE CAF (which was way too bright) was brighter than my Bearfoot version. I greatly prefer the Bearfoot version and I am getting a bit of a reputation for using this "over the top" fuzz at jam sessions freaking people out.

Thanks for the info! Good to hear, sounds like I would prefer the BF version to the BJF then. About the clean up thing, how does it compare to the AWF? That one I'm very familiar with since the BJF AWF the fuzz I use the most, whith good margin...
