How does a bjf drd compare to a rockbox boilling point

I have a boilling point running at 12v. But right now, im looking for a marshall plexi (AC/DC tone) type of pedal that has great dynamics and rich harmonics.

Is this the right way to go? Would a Catalinbread DLS work too?

As good as the DLS is, I find the mid character to be a bit lacking. I have a Boiling Point, and it blows me away. It is a bit more raw and powerful than my DRD. The DRD is 100% Marshall Plexi, character and all. It has nice, raw power, but the mids are warm and smooth.

I could never bond with my v1 DLS, but that may have something to do with getting my DRD at the same time.

The DRD is very tonally satisfying at low and high gain settings. It cuts through great and can sit in the middle of the mix as well. If you are looking for a foundation, Plexi tone, look no further.

Many years ago now... I was in an all out hunt for MY dirt sound(s) and bought 6 highly respected ODs including the just released Rock Box. Just as I was starting to demo the 6 a person from my town offered to loan me 4 of his BJFEs to try out. Fugot I still miss ya! No collateral either though I tried to loan him a few! The EGDM (I still have it!), HBOD, DRD and SBEQ (I still have it!). After demoing the 4 BJFEs all 6 pedals were promptly shipped back to the retailers. If I had the cash I would have bought all 4, but I got my two favorites in the EGDM and SBEQ, but any of them killed the original 6. I have tried several dirt boxes in the years since, but only the Bearfoot pedals have stayed.

YMMV and all that, but if you play with touch and dynamics everything else will fail.

The DRD is the BJFe that got me addicted and still one of my favorites!

This is an interesting post. My DRD doesn't sound like a Plexi at all (at least not the Plexi I played in the late 60s and early 70s which was probably more of a Super Bass Marshall with a gold plexiglass panel). My DRD is more high gain, probably more toward the JCM 800.

I use the Catalinbread DLS III for my Plexi tones (SB more) and use my DRD for more high gain sounds. The DRD -> DLS is pure heaven.

I am playing through a very clean Fender type amp with a Strat. Maybe that has something to do with it.
