Here we go! :D

My impressions:

Image

CAF - As some of you may know, I had a CAF in the past. I loved it, but ultimately it proved to be too bright for my rig and the treble couldn't be tamed short of stacking, so it was sold on... It was a long time wish of mine (and I know some of you, as well...) that the CAF eventually acquire a Treble trimmer or knob, even. Well, here it is! I thought this CAF was very similar to my old one... All the hallmarks were there - the versatility, the exploding amp sounds, the tonebendery stuff, the octave sound around noon on the Nature control... Except...

I'm not sure if it's me, but I remember my CAF being able to be a bit wilder and more ragged. This one seemed smoother. There were less of the falling apart, ragged tones to be had, as I remember of my CAF. Also, the octave sounds seemed a bit harder to find and a bit less wild. As far as the Treble control, it did a good job of EQ overall, and I almost can't believe I'm saying this - but I found myself wishing it got just a little bit brighter. The Treble control seems to lean more toward the dark side overall. Maybe I'm nuts. :D Anyway, it was an awsome ride and I think you guys are definitely going to enjoy it!

PPF - Ok... Firstly, I LOVED this pedal! I can't believe how great this one sounded with my rig. Simply fantastic... Overdrive to fuzz to everything in between. Wow. It responded really nicely to volume knob adjustments as well, which just made it even more fun and versatile. I could easily see this being on a one dirt board. Now, the fuzz isn't too hairy. There's just enough to get most jobs done, though. It's nice and warm but can still slice through a mix without sounding harsh. VERY, very nice!

Interestingly, for how I set them up, I did find a bit of overlap between this and my AWF... I can't really say I liked it more than my AWF though. That one is VERY special and SO toneful... Although this does have a bit more fuzziness than my AWF. It's also a bit darker and chewier. I could easily see myself picking this up. In fact, I just may....

Image

EGDM - I was very excited for the chance to hear this one as well, as I've had a three knob BJFe for quite a while. As with the CAF, I've often wished for the treble trimmer to be on the outside... But honestly, now that I've settled in with voxy amps almost exclusively and have my EGDM dialed in, I wouldn't say it's something I REALLY need...

In comparing the Bearfoot to the BJFe, I found them to be about 95% the same... The only difference to my ears was that the Bearfoot was a bit brighter and not quite as fat as my EGDM. That was in a side-by-side comparison, though... When I wasn't switching them directly back and forth or being super critical, the difference was less apparent. It's a GREAT sounding drive and loves my amps, just like my trusty BJFe.

The Mystoury Fuzz - Man, are you all in for a treat! This pedal is amazing... It can be warm and fat, or brightish and sizzly, all without sounding harsh at all. However, as much as I enjoyed the voicing, I did wish it would get just a tiny bit brighter... It has a nice smooth and fairly controlled, elegant type of sound. Not overly hairy... Doesn't sound fuzz face like. I'd say it has more bender type qualities, but is definitely it's own thing. I REALLY liked it.... Here's hoping it sees the light of day. I think A LOT of you are going to love this one! :D

Well, that about wraps it up... hopefully, I can get a couple of vids done and posted tonight - I just haven't had time for it, sadly.

This was a really fun Tourbox! Thanks to DocRock, DonneR and Bjorn for their efforts!

I'll be sending the box on to the next in line tomorrow afternoon... :D

very cool review and pics YNH ! yup there is always 5-10% parts variation possible, each ones going o be a hair different .... and yes the trimmer on the EGDM is mostly to allow for use with US amps so it shouldnt need much trim on an actual Vox .... :glasses

Nice pics and reviews, YNH. Thank you very much for taking the time. I'm really glad you enjoyed the pedals!

I actually have found the same regarding your comment about PPF being useable on a "one-dirt" board. Absolutely.

IT's funny that you mention the Bearfoot being smoother than the BJFe versions, that's been my general finding as well like they're a bit more "reigned in". Looking forward to the Tourbox myself :)

Yeah, actually I found the same when comparing my Bearfoot Model G to my BJFe one. They are almost the same, but the Bearfoot is a bit smoother... Less raw, and not quite as warm. It's still a Model G and sounds great - I'd say nearly identical... But when compared directly to each other, I prefer my BJFe slightly.

I think that's the general progression I hear about within the versions of BJFe pedals as well, each pedal is a little bit less raw as the circuit evolves over time. Even though they may not work through as many amps, I tend to prefer the more raw pedals myself.

Excellent review YNH!

Can't wait to see what others think too..

Just out of interest, (as I have not tried these myself), and bearing in mind that they may be worlds apart; if you gave the fuzzes an order of preference what would it be? :pedallove
