First BJFE pedal

Postby m3talw4rrior » Sun Jun 02, 2013 5:47 pm

A friend suggested I purchase a BJFe Dyna Red Distortion pedal. So I ordered one last September. He told me it can take well over 6 months and so I was (and still am) prepared for the long wait. Its summer, and if my new pedal arrives in the next couple of months it would be perfect. Still, I am curious. How long does it usually take for a BJFe pedal to arrive after its been ordered?

It's random and based on what Bjorn might happen to be working on at the moment. He does the different models in batches. There's really no way to know. Maybe you could pick up a Bearfoot Dyna Red to hold you over?

Is there a reason I should hold out for the BJFe, or should I cancel the order and go with a Bearfoot? The BJFe is a little more expensive to be sure. I can wait a little bit longer - no problem.

I would, honestly, place an order with Bearfoot and get a Dyna Red 4-knobber (or EGDM). Not to say BJFE pedals lack excellence and ultimate tonal capabilities, but you would never know the difference between the two unless both were in front of you and you mic'd them through a good recording interface. The main difference I have noticed between the product lines is a slight edge in warmth going to the BJFE boxes. In most models I have owned, the headroom is also a bit higher in the BJFE pedals. Aside from those two differences (very minor ones, I might add), the tonality and quality is equal. I would save the wait and $$$. Do you really want to wait around for a distortion pedal to rock, or would you rather have one right in front of you within the week?

Something to think about...

Cheers!

I started with a Bearfoot Dyna Red, picked up a BJFe Dyna Red used and after playing the 2 together for some time, I kept the BJFe. The difference between the 2 is so minimal but to me, it was worth it. I will say that without having the 2 side-by-side there is no difference other than paint.

I ordered it from Custom-Sounds, but that was way back in September when they still had BJFe listings on their web pages. They said mine will be shipped as soon as Bjorn has it finished. No firm date, but I'm hoping it won't be long now.

BTW, what happened to the BJFe pedal listings on Custom-Sounds? Have they stopped selling them?

Dunno, I wondered that too but I've ordered mine from Thesegoto11 instead. I ordered mine and promptly forgot about it, choosing instead just to be surprised when I got the email. I tucked away some cash for each one I ordered. Come to think of it, I'm still waiting on a CAF...

Anyway, used prices have come down to about the same as new and a little less for the more common ones at this point.

FWIW, I was added to the list for the SBEQ and PGC from custom-sounds in October 2011.
Still waiting. Sound about right? I've emailed them a few times and they are quick to reply that Bjorn is busy working on MP items and do not know when they will be available.

In the meantime, I've tried the Bearfoot Palegreen versions 1,2 & 3 and bought Pre-owned bjfe SBEQ & pgc.
