What's the difference between Sparkling Yellow I and II?

Postby Eskimo_Joe » Fri May 31, 2013 10:49 pm

Also, was the Sparkling Yellow design / learnings incorporated into any of the Mad Prof pedals?

Thanks!

Hi!

I think there's few important differences while being quite similar.. :) v. 1 has more gain and hi bite, etc..

There's lot of discussion about their differences:

Its the overall frequency range that is totally shifted. The SYODv1 is bright, lots of upper mids, not much bass but solid low mids make it feel full. The SYODv2 is more more balanced and normal- less bright, less cutting, more traditional drive, and therefore works better than the SYODv1 with brighter rigs.
A delay addict with a taste for good drives.

Yeah, SYOD I & II cover a lot of ground. I've been using them in tandem with each other for pretty much all of my gain needs. I like the way SYOD I sounds closer to my amp in the chain, so I run SYOD 2 > SYOD 1. SYOD 1 is used for pretty much everything, and I step onto SYOD 2 for over the top solos.

Soooooo good. As I've told elsewhere, I really do hear the Bearfoot pedals as very natural evolution in BJF designs. I think the 4th knob platform was absolutely the right move. That added bit of tweakability has really helped me dial in the kind of sound that I want to hear, and these things absolutely rip live.

Hey Matt,

Check here for reviews when the research was going on between V1 and V2:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3346&hilit=sparkling+yellow+overdrive&start=20

and here for a demo I did of both at the time(towards bottom of page):

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3346&hilit=sparkling+yellow+overdrive&start=60

For some reason this demo isn't in the library section, but I hope that all helps.

There's overlap but I would say V1 is more raw and immediate, with low compression and V2 is more rounded, spongy, and bit more pleasingly compressed, though not a zingy as V1.
