New Bearfoot PGC / PGC 4K ????

Postby rasputin1176 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 6:59 am

Don's post on facebook would indicate possible new version Bearfoot PGC and or PGC 4K;

"you know how once you start tweekin on something sometimes you just cant stop ; ] compressor and vibe news 'round the corner ..."
"Actually something really cool happened with the comp ... I really like the way it performs now - but it needs more gain/volume so it can also boost and get the advantage of more headroom ... well as always BJ delivered, in fact he went overboard and added this almost ebow like range to the volume beefed part, which most people wont need - but it would be cool for a special edition I think... it can be dialed back to where it should be in the 3 knob and we will probably have an overboard 4 knob for people that use compression as an effect to reshape the guitar sound. who knows what will be best at this point ~~~"

Personally I didn't like that the Bearfoot PGC V2 did not have the volume range of the BJFe standard PGC. So this sounds like it will address that. Also, I'm one of the ones that never though the PGC needed more compression range. When I compared a PGC V2 to say my AM Bi-Comp, it seemed that the PGC V2 was capable of almost as much compression but without the "Squash".....However it sounded odd to me having heavier compression and not having that squishing or pumping. I'm not saying I wanted the PGC to be like that but thought it sounded really odd with higher compression not "breathing" like that. Inevitably the BJFe PGC was a better fit for me because I wanted the subtle compression it provides.
This new Bearfoot edition seems like it could be pretty cool though, especially a 4 knob version to provide more control in certain areas....what's everyone else's thoughts???? :idea :confusedq

Sounds interesting but I'm pretty pleased with the BJFe PGC I have now and I'm not sure any tweaks would be useful to me. I'm more interested in the comments on the minivibe... I love that one and am curious of what the added control may be :confusedq

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

Yeah I'm never getting rid of my Dynamic Orange Compressor (PGC), it suits me perfectly already! But always like hearing new stuff...

Exactly what I was going to say, on all points.

Agreed. Wish I had know that before I purchased, and ordering direct from Bfoot = no returns. :( thus the end of trying out any more new pedals from him.

No need to mess with the original bjfe which fits my needs just fine.

Yup hindsight is always 20/20 isnt it

3rd times the charm here ---- this V should make everyone happy and compete with anything out there.

But I still like V2, it has all the comp, boost and EQ I will ever need and unless your volume or comp knobs are on ten then you dont need v3 either :glasses

V3 goes into the 'not so subtle' comp range and the blatant boost area as well ....

The PGC originally was made by Bjorn so he could do Beatles tunes (vox/outboard compression) on his Hiwatt (whats compression?) in a band he was in ..... ( thats why it says 'Ticket to Ride' on the PCB)

and it will compress like a pasta maker if you want it to , but Bjorn didnt need anything close to that so it was dialed back to what the PGC is natural amplike comp/sustain ....

but for fun BJ sent me one with the brakes off and its fun !! but it can also get cartoonish without some restraint so it needs a decay knob and thats what the 4 knob will be~ no brakes, except a little hand brake called Decay which will let you choose how long the noodles are .... if this isnt enough boost volume and squeeze then we cant help....

and it also gets noisier out at these lengths which is usually the opposite of BJF designs, but the 4 knob will go there if you want...

So PGC v3 final reworking that goes a bit past the BJFe PGC .......... and the PGC4 for the daring. :glasses

....oh yeah the Minivibe.....

The only real complaint Ive recieved about the Minivibe is that there is always a tiny bit of boost or sparkle even with the gain knob on 0 ....

So the MGMV will now have the gain knob go to 0 as in off.

And you can dial up to unity and then into current range.

One problem was in some peoples rigs there is noise that becomes more pronounced with the modualtion because it is boosting also, so this takes care of that problem, and some people just dont want any change other than the modualtion.......

As with the PGC, unless you have your middle knob on 0 and still want less, this wont matter to you.

Thanks Donner, most instructive! I forgot V1 was the Pale Green Comp, V2 was about serial number 258 or 9 and V3 is the current model. The funny thing is I was never into compression, but I felt V2 didnt have enough sustain for me, but V3 is just perfect! :music

I think u are confused; be clear when taking about Bearfoot PGC or BJFe PGC. Because maybe the BJFe was adjusted a little over time (and I don't think so), but there's only 1 version.
The Bearfoot had V1 which was same as BJFe, then few months back transitioned to only making V2, which has more compression but that added compression apparently was taken from the Volume stage which is why it has much less on tap than V1 or BJFe. It's very easy to hear the difference with the less vol, greater comp & Body ranges.
The Bearfoot V3 & 4K are not out yet, still being developed.... So when u said "current" it's either standard BJFe PGC or BF PGC V2 as far as what's being made right now.

I have BJFe PGC #255, personally I love it. It seems to have more compression than some of the very old BJFe ones I've heard so maybe there's some slight differences over time. However I still think the BJFe ones are all same version. Newer versions seem to have more significant changes. For example I like the old BJFe HB, slightly different because it was refined over time but still same version. That's all I'm getting at. I guess that's like non-official versions people could use to define where changes took place.
(unless I'm incorrect) :confusedq
