Does anyone have a Mad Professor Amp?

Postby Eskimo_Joe » Sat Dec 08, 2007 7:52 pm

It seems like we all love BJ's pedal work. Anybody have one of his amps? I'd love to try one someday.

I own a MP amp, serial number 013 !!!
Its the model without the tube/fet floor switsh.
As cab i use a Heritage 2x12 with Alnico gold 50 watt.
Men, i love this monster.
When i play without any pedals i use the abnormal input,
with my BJFE board i use the normal input.
BJFE board contains (in sequence) Peterson strobe, PGC,MGMV,
LLT,PPF,CAF,RRB,BBOD,DRD,LGW,HBOD,EGDM,SBEQ,BPB,(mp) DBD
cheers

hey Wim,,wow an early one. Mine is #61,,,just wondering if you have had a chance to play one with fet/boost switch? if so any thoughts on the fet. I really like the versitlity it provides. In addition to original setting you have clean boost, dist, or both to add.
well heres a brief bit..
I usually stay in the abnormal input, even with pedals. I can get cleans and heavy distortions to my liking this way.
Mas vol up a bit for slight tube compression,, Vol set to slight breakup.
The focus knob is a real treat,,,like having a few more differnent settings ready to go. I like the Solid /Triangle setting. Solid settings I believe are better suited for more preamp dist. and the triangle is less british sounding for lack of a better term, sorry.
I dont move the balance knob around too much although it has a huge range and helpful to make some dist pedal get along better with the amp.
It will sort of cut or add bass or treble at the same rate both ways if that makes any sense,,,(like a balancing act ) :)
add in the other eq's and Presence and its easy to find your sound.
oh and the powersuck I use on Arena or Club.
4X12 MP cab with 2 Eminence Red Fangs and 2 Private Jacks.
Pedal neccessity has been reduced since the amp,,,but I still run all my BJF's as one never knows,,,options are good.
DBD and SYT sit in the loop,,,although they can do quite fine before the amp too.
hmm I probably left something out,,,anything or anyone else?

the fet/boost option is really on my list, prob i will send my amp to MP
for this update.
Now i can only switsh by hand from fet to tube.
Thats why i use more pedals to boost overboost etc.
In the send and return I use a linemixer made by Skrydstrup, the DM2
to keep the original signal, and mix it with a Roommate and Replica made by T-Rex.
When i bought mine, the was no MP cabinet on the market, so did a lot
of experiments.
In the end i allways ended with Alnico Blue, then the AlnicoGold came
on the market, 50 watt each, and my cabinet was born, with the wood
quality Heritage made in his 2x12 i finally found my cab.
Oh, i change the preamp tubes by Tung Sol Gold 12ax7, and i must admit, that powersoak isn't my favorite, only on Arena you get the true sound out of it.
A good powersoak dont excist, and never will be !
cheers Wim

I don't own one, but I sure wish I did. A new boutique amp that isn't a update or inspiration of a previous amp...but can still cop the feeling of those amps. Not to mention you can use a variety of tubes...and the versitility. Wow. It's like the swiss army knife of the amp world.

Hi Donner, to switch between ?
You can use the normal or the abnormal, and they are not switchable. Only by changing the plug.

PS, i cant reply for the next days, due to a trip to Romania, will be back on friday.
Cheers Wim
