One Control BJF Buffer Pedal

Postby roquero » Wed Aug 29, 2012 6:18 am

I just saw this pedal on offer from Tone Factor on Ebay

Is this a :bjorn Bjorn design, or is someone using the BJF :bjorn initials to deceive us?:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380466097382#ht_500wt_1297

Here is the marketing pitch:

The One Control BJF buffer puts one of the brightest minds in the effect pedals business to use, to create the best buffer pedal available on the market. BJF’s design have been imitated an innumerable amount of times but out of all of those clone attempts one thing was clear; BJF designs and selection of transistors and circuits is special. Although BJF has designed many pedals, this will be the only stand-alone buffer that he has designed. Efforts were made to make sure that the BJF buffer gives you the perfect amount of gain as well as input and output impendence. Even if the pedal is over-loadeded the design takes in to account that any distortion is still pleasant to the ears. While BJF was creating this pedal he specifically said that he does not put his name on a product that he doesn’t believe in and said that he believes this buffer design is great.

Hm... :scratch

Well it certainly seems to indicate BJ did it. However, it doesn't look like a typical BJF pedal. I know the folk buffer is out there for folks to build... could be someone doing a poor job of marketing their own work? I'm thoroughly confused. If it's a BJF effect I'd be surprised as the aesthetic is pretty far off from anything I've seen thus far. Guess we'll find out when BJ or Donner check in...

The guy skirts around the issue, but never claims Bjorn built it. I know Bjorn helped me with putting a buffer in my SBEQ, but there is no way Bjorn built that enclosure.

I'd ask for a gut shot before bidding.

I think maybe someone just took the idea from here, and is now flogging it on the 'bay... They should've at least just stated who the actual builder was and given Bjorn credit for the design, if it's the Folk Buffer. I highly doubt Bjorn built this pedal…

For those that are curious-

I've been in contact with Bjorn today and during our chat he related to me the story of this buffer. It is indeed designed by Bjorn, having been licensed for manufacture by a Japanese distributor and builder of pedalboards, for said distributor's use. Bjorn may yet chime in further if he finds time, but he gave me the ok to pass this info along in the meantime.

Right, Bjorn designed this awhile ago for One Control who is also the owner of 9volt that is the Japanese dealer for BJFe,MP and BearFoot .... they recently bought out Tone Factor. So now the One Control stuff is featured at Tone Factor and BearFoot is now carried there also ....

The one control stuff is really high quality - I use thier Mosquite blender to put my PGC and MGMV and TOP and pre dirt modulations in and have a Super Deluxe that clean blends all of them before being distorted....

I also use their power distro mini thingy on my BearFoot test rig so I can line up 3 or 4 at the same time for comparison.......

So maybe BJ can talk about what the buffer is - I think its different than both the BPB and the Folk buffers.... any way Im sure its good quality....
