Bbod and the model H? wow, I never considered that stack.

I love that baby blue overdrive into my Rev. hell hound or even a music man amplifier. I think the baby blue prefers fender type amps.

It must prefer Fender BF style. It lacks luster through my Marshall and tweeds. With the marshall it actually sounds very much like my drd but missing some weight.

OK -- I finally took the plunge and tried the BBOD (thanks hula ). I'm definitely on the fence about it. With my SSS strat (my main guitar) it sounds really great and bluesy on the neck pickup but on the bridge it sounds very thin and brittle. It's a v1 and definitely doesn't have much volume on tap but that's not a big deal as I am a "just above unity" person. I do have to pretty much max it on lower gain settings but that's not a big deal.

I've also been trying to reproduce the sounds with other pedals. I've been only somewhat successful so far. The closest sound I've found is the Skreddy Screwdriver Deluxe on lower gain settings. They actually sound remarkably similar but with different EQ's. I think If I could cut the bass (quite a bit) and boost the mids (slightly) and maybe shift the treble response a bit the Skreddy would do the BBOD thing. However, removing the woofy fuzzy bass in the Skreddy doesn't seem to be an easy task no matter what I try. I dig the pedal for that but I think the only way to really dial it out would be a separate EQ.

Annnyway -- anyone have some advice on favorite uses or settings with the BBOD with single coils (specifically on the bridge)? It definitely is unique and really cool and "old" sounding. The neck pickup blues tones are great but that alone isn't going to be enough to keep it around so I'm looking for some more magic somewhere...

For a Strat and single coil bridge, I set the BBOD with gain at about 10 and the tone between 1:00 and 2:00. If you want it a bit thicker then put a SBEQ before it, set the volume at 12:00 or above. Set the SBEQ bass and treble fully CCW and then roll up the treble to suit your taste. 9:00 for the SBEQ treble is the spot for me. Or use a PH if you've got one.

Yea, an EQ or boost is an option but I am opposed to using pedals to fix other pedals. I think they should be able to stand on their own and sound great. If it takes a SBEQ to "fix" it, my money would almost certainly be better spent elsewhere.

I'm thinking it might sound better and cut well in a mix so I'll be giving that a run to see how it stacks up there.

Willing to listen to some other thoughts though

12V. Crank the volume. Tone to suit your taste (my taste is between 11 and 1). Gain around 11:00. The pedal really sings.

I think it's the best rock tone out there. Works great for bluesy stuff.

As most of you know I am a dyed-in-the-wool single coil guy and found the BBOD to be finicky with amps, more so than a MR! It just did not work with my Swart SST-30 that has a master volume, but it did work pretty well with my AST Pro.

I do not know if you have tried a SYOD v2, but you might find it is a much more versatile than the BBOD. I felt the BBOD to be similar to the DRD, but with less bottom, and I never could totally fall in love with the DRD either. To me the MR and SYOD v2 are a better match for singles.

I have had a couple SYOD's (both v1's and v2's) in the past but haven't had them recently. I'll keep those in mind.

Oh, and the 12v thing may be the ticket. I'll give that a try this evening. I didn't even think of changing the voltage

I think running the BBOD @ 12V is the only suggestion or answer I ever make in this forum, but who really cares, because the best solution to any problem is: run the BBOD @ 12V.
