Slight misscommunication here but yes if you have to you can run Bearfoot PGC at 18V by all means and it follows that same specifications as BJF PGC quite simply


Actually the datasheet for NE5534 states that it can be run from 6V's to 44V's in single supply.


I would also like to say that if 18V was the standard supply rather than 9V different design choices could be made.


What happens when you run PGC at 18V is simplified that influence of the compressor amplifier limitations will be lessened.

Other parts of circuit remain as far as possible the same at the expense of heat, while eventually the output voltage swing of the compressor amplifier will exceed the window in which the detector works.

There's also a limit to how wide the detection window can be without linearization of control elements rather than mere selecting, which however doesn't really matter for the circuit since the window is wide enough for the intended application.

Sorry, I have a sinus infection going and am sleep deprived caring for my 3 year old who has the Croup since Monday night. I usually have no trouble understanding Bjorn, but not this time.

no worries, in short he simply says, yes the BF PGC can be safely run at 18volts, just as the BJF PGC which has the same specifications.

and also that if 18v rather than 9v would've been the standard suppy, the design would've been done in a different way, because... (technical details i don't understand).

Just returned after my 3rd gig (and a big one) w/ the PGC. Ran the guitar through a huge pro system shared w/ the verve pipe (1990s hit "the freshman"). The PGC worked flawlessly. Very impressed with this pedal. No noise when engaged. Popping, etc. I did a number on the paint job by velcroing it though. Donner help? While rehearsing, I moved it slightly and the paint pulled immediately off taking the Velcro with it. Not a huge deal, but still... Anyhow for my application it works great as a lead boost for the acoustic. I am playing with idea of adding the Forrest green as a 2nd comp. for sustain as needed. Any thoughts?? the PGC adds a sweet thickness, but not much in the sustain department. I guess that would be my only issue.

Currently working on getting a SBEQ to replace my boss ge7. If you have one gathering dust, pm me. I promise to put it to good use.

Great report PG .... yeah Ive about decided to just stop painting the bottoms all together - and I actually like the look better, Bearfoot are made to be able to take in bars and on tours and that means industrial velcro and vintage paints arent going to survive that so ~~~~ really Glad it improved your sound and otherswise worked flawlessly .... yes it is not a big artificial sustainer and there are plenty of comps that do that .... you can also try hitting the PGC with a booster if you have one handy......

If the transition to bare bottoms happens, can we can still have at least the option of a painted bottom? I don't use velcro. I usually screw my pedals down. If I have to use velcro, I use the diaper method because I like to keep the original bottom on the pedal.

We will see, I think it actually looks better as it picks up the exposed metal of the inouts and stomp....
