How does the Red Rooster Booster

The RRB is my post-dirt lead boost. Interestingly enough, I run a Klon pre-dirt in my chain. I find they are very complimentary, but also quite unique (this may be obvious, but I find it interesting -- they were not intended to be similar whatsoever).

What I find to be fantastic with the RRB and a Strat/Deluxe rig is the hair added by the RRB as a boost. My rig almost requires this edge to really throw the tone into the mix and give it an added girth. The amount of boost the RRB can provide is also quite impressive, and for some, might be too dramatic. For what I do (which is really not much ), the RRB is a pleasing, aggressive boost with enough low-mid presence to satisfy my tastes.

You are in for a treat. If you like a little hair on your tone, then the RRB is for you. The boost can be quite thundrous at its most extreme setting, thrashing the front end of your amp if you need it to.

It works quite well on either end of your pedal board.

VERY different animals, but both are fantastic for what they do:

Would you rather have a hairy, aggressive boost (red rooster) or a clean, transparent, buffered one (baby pink)?

The names are quite descriptive of what's inside.

Hopefully you can lay hold of one or both, cannikin. I have heard several people remark that the MP RRB does a similar thing to the BJFE RRB, but I have not tried it for myself yet. It also has a switchable buffer. For the price (~150USD), might be worthwhile?

Heh. I am sure they are quite similar in many ways. The mojo, after all, comes from the same source ( ). Then again, I have never had a chance to compare the MP directly with the BJFe counterpart(s). My hunch is that there might be beauty afforded by the simplicity of the controls of the RRB and BPB. At the same time, the ability to utilize the MP RRB as an aggressive treble booster probably provides advantages of its own.

The RRB is hairy, aggressive and quite powerful.

The BPB is softer (sonically), transparent and buffered.

From what I have heard of the MP RRB, it is a cross between the BJFe RRB and a classic treble booster (even the LRT).

Hopefully someone can help us both out by sharing their experiences with the trio of boosts.

The RRB is one of the few BJFE I have not yet tried. AlanB raves about it and was using all the time for a while, maybe he will chime in.

At the moment I have a one knob clean boost from another builder that has really made me a believer in having this type of pedal. Where I really like to use mine is at the very end of my chain right before the amp, from there it's can be used like a master volume for your pedal board. Though I am mostly a mediocre home player who loves good gear, I get together with a few guys every so often and play really loud. A boost like this is good fun when playing with another guitarist who keeps edging up their volume, a RRB type pedal can be a secret weapon in these scenarios...

The RRB is the only BJFE I really regret selling! So, whomever has Area 51....
