Bearfoot Mint Green Vibe arrived!

Postby roquero » Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:08 pm

Got the Mint Green Vibe and fooled around a bit but need to play it some more before I decide if it replaces my Magnavibe on my board. Thanks for the quick shipping, Donner!

Well here are my experiences- as I've posted on TGP, but am posting here for the benefit of those on this forum who don't go there
I noticed the Minivibe didn't jive well with pedals that add a bit of compression such as the Barber Burn Unit and Xotic BB Plus.
Started with Minivibe at 18 volts at beginning of my pedal chain.
The minivibe also didn't stack well with my Basic Audio fuzzes, but worked superbly with the Pink Purple Fuzz [no surprise there!]
So I took out my Tim, put it last in the chain, and inserted the Minivibe in the effect loop of the Tim- presto! orgasmic waves of wobbly vibe goodness flowed from my rig! :pedallove
Lesson learned: place the Minivibe after pedals that add compression
And though I couldn't find a manual for the Bearfoot Minivibe, I consulted the manual for the BJF version here, and it basically says the same thing.
Donner also gave me some great advice about putting it in a looper that can blend two different signals.
So I took out my Boss LS-2 Line Selector and set up 2 pedal chains
One had my Basic Audio Fuzzes, Xotic EP Booster, and Barber Burn Unit going in Loop A of the Boss
Loop B of the Boss had Minivibe>Pink Purple Fuzz>Tim
I liked this setup best of all because now I had three tonal options- I could switch on Loop A or Loop B or blend both together.
The blend mode is particularly outstanding because you can blend the Minivibe affected signal with a heavier non-modulated signal which sounds fantastic!
I read that :bjorn was inspired by the vibrato circuit of an old organ to create the Minivibe and I can see how that came about.
With the velocity at 11 AM, amplitude at 4 PM and gain fully counterclockwise, I can get a spooky Hammond B3 wobble that just calls out for picking some House of the Rising Sun arpeggios!

hmmmm I used to use an LS2 years ago but I used it to blend two pickups on my acoustic electric...... interesting possibilities there....

I posted this on TGP and thought I'd put it here too. I did a quick demo of the Vibe with my small recording rig so I could see how it sounded. Here are the soundcloud clips if you're interested. I find that the Mini Vibe really brings the sound to the front and adds some brightness to the mix.

(For these recordings the setup is Danocaster Tele -> Fromel Shape EQ -> Mini Vibe -> Paisley Drive -> Fromel Up -> Red Iron Lil Mo amp -> Surprise Sounds SE-5 Cab Sim -> Audio Interface).

MiniVibe as an enhancer (ampl & gain at zero).
(sequence goes
1. Clean amp.
2. Clean amp with vibe on.
3. Paisley Drive without vibe.
4. Paisley Drive with vibe.

Same settings as above but with the Vibe pushing the Honey Bee (HB first, followed by Vibe -> HB)

Clean amp with vibe (gain at 0:00, ampl at 2:30, Vel at 2:00)

nice demos !! the first couple show the tone boost usage well and I like the vibe demo as it shows the wobble really well .....

one with before and after dirt would be good too 8)

I did another quick demo to better show the settings on the MiniVibe and also to show the difference between running it before and after the Honey Bee.

Vibe Demo
0:00 - 0:16 = clean with vibe, all zero.
0:16 - 1:15 changes in velocity settings. Gain zero, ampl 10:00
1:13 - 1:55 = changes in ampl settings, gain zero, velocity 11:00
1:55 - 2:17 = ampl full, vel full, gain zero.
2:17 - 2:40 = vel and ampl both full. Max Vibe Gain.

Vibe Before and After Honey Bee
0:00 - 0:10 Honey Bee
0:10 - 0:34 Vibe -> Honey Bee
0:35 - 1:00 Honey Bee -> Vibe
