Hey guys,
I just saw this thread and thought I should take the time to give my side of the story. First of all, I have NEVER bought something on TGP with the sole intention of flipping it. I?m a tone freak just like everyone else on that board, and everything I buy is because I honestly want to try it out, whether it?s just out of pure curiosity, to ?battle? another pedal, or to revisit a long lost love. Like everyone on the gear page knows ? I never hang on to anything ? it?s a sickness ? and it?s called OCD ? and the fact that I?m a 19 year old college student with absolutely no constant or foreseeable income, doesn?t help either. Sometimes I need cash ? so I sell something that I know will get me the money fast and easy.
I love BJF pedals, I?ve bought plenty of pedals straight from Bjorn, as well as on the gear page. I think Bjorn is a genius and his pedals are second to none, and I would never want to do something to upset him, or the people who support his pedals. So now you?re asking ? ?why haven?t you ever kept any?? ? the answer is ? I truly have a hard time justifying having 300 dollars in a single overdrive pedal. Yet time and time again ? I yearn for those pretty little boxes.
So with that said ? here?s the story with the current pedals that were just sold.
BBOD: I thought I paid the PREMIUM price on TGP for this pedal. I paid $410. I paid that gladly ? because I really wanted to try out the pedal. I got the pedal and to be honest ? I just didn?t like it. I liked my Freakshow Brown Rabbit more. I checked through the emporium on the gear page, and there were 2 BBODs for sale at the time for about 400 and they weren?t selling. So ? I decided to put mine on ebay to ensure a quick sale and then this madness happens.
HBOD: Got this pedal around the same time as the BBOD. I paid 325 for this on TGP as well. I was looking for the right Low-Gain overdrive for my 1964 Gibson Falcon. Fellow gear pager Erksin told me this was ?it? for the Falcon. So I bought one to revisit it, but I also bought a Fender Nocaster that week which I had to pay for (which I still have, lol). I put it on ebay at the same time as the BBOD because I wanted to only have to make 1 trip to the post office. So I had them both end at the same time.
PGC: I was stoked that my other pedals sold for so much, so I listed this. Again, with no reserve. I just couldn?t justify paying this much for the pedal, especially with the luck I had on the previous sales. After the auction, I found out the winner was a fellow gear pager, so I e-mailed him and gave him a discount.
Now for the PPF: Doc said that I had a WTB ad up for one of these just to flip it. WRONG. I got this one and loved it, but the fact that it was so clean, and an early number, I figured I could just sell this one on ebay, and pick up one of the newer ones with the swirly paint jobs, which I like more. Now, I admit that I got a bit greedy with this one on my ebay auction. The 700 BIN was stupid, but I figured ?if people want to pay that much, they can.? After reading this thread, I took that auction down. Tonight it will be relisted starting at .01 with no reserve. The pedal is also available for trade to all the gear pagers. I have no problem hooking up my online buddies. I?m currently considering a trade straight up for a Little Purple OD.
I will not be buying another PPF, because I got another pedal to cover the lower gain tones that I loved out the one currently for sale.
In any case. Over the past week ? I had a chance to buy 2 Honey Bees at only 400 bucks. 2 chances to buy BBODs at 500, 1 chance to buy a PGC at 350 ? but GUESS WHAT? I didn?t ? because I knew I didn?t need them. I didn?t care to flip them. I really wanted another gear pager to get them.
The point is. I only buy stuff that I truthfully want to try out. Even if I know I?m just going to sell it. I have bought stuff knowing that IF I sold it, I could make some money, but that was never the driving force, but simply ?fuel? to pull the trigger. But that, and flipping are two different things entirely.
In the past 2 years, I have bought and sold probably 100 pedals at least. I?ve lost money on some, and made money on some. I?ve been in the right place at the right time.
I?m truly sorry if I upset anyone here, especially Bjorn. That was not my intention what so ever. I understand that there is a certain amount of loyalty on these forums, and I like to think that most people on the gear page think of me as a fairly honest and loyal guy.
Thanks, Jon
