PGC all over the place...

Postby hawaii121 » Wed May 11, 2011 1:27 pm

I'm going to fire up this topic again... For the last couple of months I have been using my PCG at the front of my chain, typical settings (99% of the time) volume 3 oclock, comp 10 oclock, nat 9 oclock. For fun, I moved it to the end of my chain and have been pushing the volume up to near max with the other settings remaining the same. It just kills in both positions (front and back of chain). I really like it with the volume pushed particularly when I'm playing in a band setting. The thing that I love so much about the volume boost from the PGC is that it doesn't add any dirt to the overall tone just, as BobbyD would say, "sweetness."

I have also found that it can do some very subtle and pleasing eq correction when used at the back of the chain. I have a Cornish P2 which some find to be a little dark, the PGC works very well for correcting this while still maintaining the integrity of the oh so sweet fuzz tone of this pedal or anything else that's in front of it.

I know it's a little corny, but I really could see where you could have a PGC at both ends of your chain.

THE PGC isn't one of those subtle pedals. Its immediately noticeable. I mean it opens up your sound and WOW. But having both? I know a few people like it at the end of the chain but I always found it suited me better in the beginning! It seemed to affect my dynamics way too much at the end. Maybe i used it differently. Still the best compressor i've used.

Then again, i haven't explored much with using it in a band setting so you may be right bout that though i'd probably use a BPB to boost up the volume a bit instead. Love my dynamics too much!!!!

I find you can run either the SBEQ or FGC at the front or the end of your chain. My chain is listed below where I run fuzz> FGC> dirt> modulation, SBEQ>delay> MP RRB with buffer on at 18 Volts. The RRB is so much better and fatter at 18!

I'm pretty much a weekend warrior - mostly random jam sessions - very occasional gigs.

With the comp setting low, I really don't find an impact on dynamics which seems counterintuitive for a compressor but that's what makes the PGC so damn amazing. Perhaps it should be renamed "BobbyD's PGS"... Votes?

yep. That's why i love the PGC. It clears up the sound and barely touches my dynamics. Its subtle but it sure is felt! I don't think i've ever really used it to truly compress the sound. Always lower than noon.
