Generally high>low, but with some exceptions if I'm trying to do something specific. I find that a lower gain pedal is just more likely to get overwhelmed and be less noticeable when run into a high gain pedal than the other way around.
I think though its more the character of the pedal than just the gain. If it really colors your sound or has a particular eq (HB, MH, BBBOD), I usually prefer it after more "transparent" pedals regardless of which distorts more.
For what its worth, I have a CHI and agree that I like it best on its own. I had to pull the gain way back to get it stacking really well, and I just prefered leaving the gain up on it. Im sure a honeybee would be good with it though, and I'd love to give it a spin with an SBEQ. I'm sure it'd be great into a beefier amp, but I think it sounds fine into my 5e3.
