As I believe many, if not all, of us on this site are extremely focused on getting the best possible sound/tone from our equipment, I thought I would post my latest experience with patch cables.
Out of curiosity, I started looking into ordering soldered (vs George L with monorail) patch cords. Quotes for high end ones ranged from $20 to $40 per 6" cable. So I emailed Tony (Evidence) and asked him what plugs he recommends for soldering to monorail.
His reply: "I like these" http://mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=ACPM-rB
I ordered a bunch, soldered for 3 hours one Sat morning (I'm slow with the solder, but can now do a cable in 5 minutes), plugged them in, and YES! The difference between these and the solder-less George L was astonishing in terms of noise reduction. My board became virtually silent where there had previously been some white noise. Also, no more mysterious soundless moments that leave you wiggling cables for 45 minutes.
In the end, each cable cost me about $10 - premium tips and premium cable.
