CAF and Voltage changes

Postby thesjkexperience » Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:18 am

I thought I was going to be slick and lower the Voltage on my CAF to 7.9 Volts to thicken it up, but I found a fresh carbon battery did a bit better. So, I tried 12 Volts and WHOH DUDE! It is like a totally different fuzz! :pedallove :bjorn

Now I am running through an attenuator, so the real proof will be tomorrow at "basement" volumes. Lets say I am excited!

I also found out my buffer has died and was slowly robbing me of volume and high end, so I am now buffer-less and got rid of my only non-true-bypass pedal (a digital nova delay that converted everything to digital), so it will be a very different board/experience tomorrow. :music

The buffer is dead and the issue is being resolved, but it is going to take a few weeks. You forget how much a buffer does as I feel all my punch is gone and the lower mids are muddy. I might pull off a few pedals and just go through those in the short run.

The bad thing about the CAF at 12 Volts was the noise and I just felt like it might explode! It is still a great sound.

well if you have a non trubypass pedal like a Boss or Ibanez etc... you can just put that inline for a buffer - I actually like Ibanez buffers :violent1

The only one I have with a buffer is my old Nova Delay and that is worse than no buffer. I just need to get the buffer box sent back so it can get fixed up. A small $.25 component must have died, so soon, and all will be well.

I am getting a Cusack tap a whirl v3 and a Diamond tremolo to check out :mailbox , so I do wish I had something to better judge. The loser(s) go back to the store. I also have a LsL T-Bone SA (swamp ash Tele) coming :mailbox (used so it cant go back) and am looking forward to hearing it in all its glory.
