Is this normal for a DRD????

Postby Joeleo » Wed Nov 24, 2010 11:10 pm

Hello all, so i very recently swung a deal for a DRD. One of the older ones with the flat nitro paint.

Well it came today as i was on my way out the door to practice for leading the worship service at my church. I was pumped because it came just in time for me to take and try out while setting up/sound checking.

First of all, the DRD sounded WONDERFUL. The tone was just phenomenal. But i noticed that i was having trouble getting the normal volume increase when turning it on that i would get from other dirt boxes. With all knobs at noon, the signal was very slightly louder than with the pedal off, and when i backed off the drive i had to dime the volume knob on the DRD to get any sort of volume increase. The volume actually seemed to diminish when i tried it after a boost pedal. The volume with the DRD + Boost seemed quieter than just the Boost being on.

Is there something wrong with my DRD, or is this normal? Of course, this was only about 5 minutes of playing through it while setting up, so i haven't really put it through it's paces yet. I was just wondering what the experience has been like for other DRD players.

When I plug guitar -> DRD -> amp, with the amp on a huge headroom clean setting, unity gain on the DRD is about 10:00 or a little less. Do you see this as well?

If you are running a boost before it, you can see volume diminish if your DRD is set below unity gain using the vol/drive knobs.

Thanks guys. Well this morning i was able to plug her in at the house and really see what she could do before heading off to eat disgusting amounts of turkey and stuffing... :D

I am now convinced that there is nothing wrong with it. At the church i play at, they let us crank our amps up fairly loud but they have them backstage and facing away from us, so of course that is going to affect the accuracy of what i'm hearing. Also, today when i was playing with it i realized that the drive knob seems to have a HUGE affect on the overall volume of the pedal, much more so than my other dirt pedals.

But yeah, after getting to play through it this morning, just Jazzmaster > DRD > Twin, :love10
It sounded incredible. I'm pumped to experiment with various stacking combinations and to try it through my other guitars, but now it's time to go consume large quantities of Tryptophan. :laughing7

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Welcome Joel!

in my opinion, Nothing turns a clean Fender into a dirty Marshall better than the DRD...

most of the line is like that - say hello to killer tone and goodbye to your wallet

Thanks Donner! Yes, the line is incredible. The DRD is actually my 4th BJFE. I also have a SBEQ, HBOD, and i recently acquired the DRD and a RRB. The last two were acquired mostly through either trades or by selling other gear, but when my name comes up on the Custom Sounds waiting list for a PGC and EGDM i suppose my wallet will definitely be feeling it then! :D
