Custom guitar experiences

Postby hawaii121 » Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:40 pm

Just got the chance to play a Suhr GG and was thoroughly impressed. Has terrific balance and ergonomics plus one of the most killer feeling necks I've ever had my hands on.

As I am pretty near done on my pedal board and amps, I need to start lusting over a guitar

I tend to like the bluesy les paul kind of thing over a strat or shredder guitar, what are some of the favorites out there in custom build land that will not cost more than my car

Check out Schroeder Guitars.

I've had a really good experience with him and am contemplating another build actually. He actually won Premier Guitars "premier builder" award or something.. He was also featured again in an article there a month or two ago.

If you can dream it he can build it. You can pick each piece of wood used if you'd like- and he posts pics of your guitar as it's getting built on his forums. You get your own thread for your guitar. Also, Jason is one of the coolest guys you will deal with. Check his site out- if you want more info pm me!

Hey Steve,

I have a Suhr Tele and Strat. I love them both. The cool thing is that you can chose from many different neck contours. I chose the 50's round back because I like fat necks. It is similar to a 1959 Les Paul profile. Both of the guitars play incredible. The only thing that I swapped was the Suhr pickups for some Fred Stuarts.

Happy Hunting.

Great link bsic! Looks like a terrific guitar. I got a kick out of your pick up change - I opted for the JB, 59 (neck) pickup combo in my guitar and it's largely responsible for why I've been buying pedals instead of a new guitar - i.e., they sound killer!

I'll probably be shopping around over the next year trying to figure out just the right thing and this is certainly a builder for consideration. Unless something jumps out at me, the neck set up on the suhr GG gives me a reference to share with builders.

Also, I'm getting ready to make another pedal board with the things I've been learning and I'm doing my own with a color top, abalone purfing, and natural wood bottom and sides (this is an experiment). It was cool to see how he went about doing yours - gave me some ideas.
