Glad you're enjoying the addiction,
it's replacing it that becomes near impossible.
As most have rightly suggested, it's horses for courses
(and you'll probably find a place for both eventually).
Donner suggested to me early on in my
"habilitation" program,
the PGC/ SBEQ- was "THE" best clean tone available.
Bobby D swears by the PGC as an always on sweetener
and many would agree(B sick is a big fan!)
The PGC is a real nuance thing-
nature knob is the key.
If you're used to a Dyna-Comp/ Ross style compressor-
it can change your perspective on compressors
as it sweeten's without the "squish",
but has it if you want.
PG = subtlety and it doesn't roll off the high end.
I changed to an Analogman modded Dyna Comp (also tried the AYA R-comp),
as I want the compressor to be more noticeable/ i.e. in your face.
I sometimes found the high of the PGC too apparent for my taste, (a personal thing
as this is what some love about it).
The HB (imo) is the best pedal Mr. Juhl has ever made and the one I use most.
It has a variety of uses and Donner pointed out some of these to me too:
1. The HB makes ANY other pedal you have sound good and in some cases better.
2. Fuzz into HB is a KILLER combo.
(I'm not a fuzz guy- but it pushes my Analogman Sunface into the mix and lets it cut through live).
3. With a Fender amp and an open G tuning- it can nail alot of Keith's tones (Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, Start Me Up.)
4. With a Tele and maxing the gain- you can get some killer early Jimmy Page tones as well as great Malcolm Young rhythm tones.
As I said, it depends on your needs and it's horses for courses.
Somtimes I miss the PGC but the Dyna Comp is more useful at the moment.
The HB, well....that's oxygen for me!
Good Luck with the choice.
