Yup - the birth batches of both the MH and SY1 (and others) had more klang and headroom which is great on the right rig - but both were tweeked a bit for wider appeal, the latest tweek is a further balancing for widest appeal --- they all will have their specific places to shine and in most other pedal lines they would be two different models

Interesting. I have a slightly older one, but not a Donner box (mine is gray with an H finger painted on top), that is identical to the Doc's Rock Box in sound. A newer one I tried had more headroom and was able to get less distortion at minimum Drive. I am an the list for a new one as I find it to be the best all around OD pedal. 
I cant believe I am saying this, but I hope my name doesnt come up too soon as I am low on cash. I think a Tuner > MH > SBEQ would be a fantastic minimalist jam board.
I know Bjorn said he was going to whip up a batch of CAFs soon and I hope to receive one of those!

You could do a whole gig with just the Model H in terms of the range it can give you.
Markom on the gear Page loves fuzz,
but when he got his Model H-said he started to appreciate the H more,
and use fuzz less
owing to the clarity of the Model H in comparison while still getting a great distortion sound.
It's like the Drake on Seinfeld.
Love the Model H.
Whoever buys it won't be disappointed.
