MP SHOD similar to SYOD?

Postby thesjkexperience » Wed Apr 21, 2010 12:14 am

I was watching to one of Bobby D's videos the other night and he was demoing a Sparkling Yellow OD. I think it was a V.1, but cant say for sure thought it was sparkly yellow with the custom white stripe. Anyways, he mentioned it seemed somewhat similar to the MP Sweet Honey OD. I had a SHOD for a few weeks but returned it as I just picked up a HoneyBee and EGDM and liked that better, and since cash is limited...

Has anyone else tried both? My pedal set up is very different now, and the chances of me getting a V.2 SYOD seem slim (plus I am broke), so how similar are they? My friend/teacher just picked up a Sweet Honey, so I can try it again, but want to know if pursuing a SYOD is worth the effort.

i have both...the SHOD & the SYOD( v1 )...IMHO if you want to get close to the SYOD sounds, grab a Jetter Red...it can do a pretty good job at imitating the SYOD, less the BJ Magic !...

but keep your eyes open, the Mad Professor line might be adding a SYOD version soon...Grab one, they are great overdrives!!...and they stack well too!

Yeah, I have a SHOD and SYOD V2 and they are different animals. I've never had SYOD V1, but BJ told me that V1 is voiced with a higher mid-range than V2 naturally making it brighter sounding.
I think that is the one in Bobby D's video...the SHOD has less gain but more bite than the SYOD v2, but I dig that pedal for getting more authentic AC/DC tones that sound more like POWER amp distortion, which is great.
I'll be uploading a couple of audio files soon, one with the SYOD.

I thought the Jetter Red was a copy of the Zendrive which was very mid heavy.

So MP is coming out with one? No wonder TGT11 wasn't very sure Bjorn would make more. Maybe by then I might have some cash lol.

melodichaotic, always great to hear more BJFe sounds!

Thanks guys.

they are for sure different......the SYOD still haunts me quite a bit......that is a VERY nice sounding OD pedal with a GREAt top end presence.

the SHOD is fantastic too.....i use the SHOD a lot. it depends upon the gig, sometimes i like honeybee better, sometimes like like sweet honey.

when i first had the honeybee, i remember asking BJ to make something that was "tighter and brighter".....and he DID.....the sweet honey!

but then i found myself missing the magic feel of the honeybee

the SYOD is more aggressive and bright......hard to describe in words.....but very very very cool.....
