Buy- Sell- Trade idea

Postby strings2wood » Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:50 am

I'm wondering about the possibility of discussing-considering
the pluses/ minuses/ and what if's of the BJF Buy-Sell-Trade Forum.
This includes consideration and evaluation of an amended approach on the BJF Forum.

If the moderators feel my suggestions for consideration
are without merit/ benefit, I'm happy for them to lock/ delete this post.

I believe this discussion can produce some worthwhile ideas/ and perhaps changes,
if it is not too burdensome for the technology/ time considerations etc.

If you've visited the Heritage owners website,
you would be aware it is (like the BJF Forum) divided into categories
with their own forums.
One category is called "The Marketplace".

It is divided into 2 Forums:

1. Buy-Sell-Trade
2. Bay Watch

What if:

The BJF Forum was to consider similar Forums where:

In Buy-Sell-Trade
members can list only pedals/ gear they are personally selling, wish to buy or trade.
Members only need post a reply or PM if they wish to buy/ trade etc.

In a second forum:
e.g. On the bay

members are free to list the sales of pedals/ gear that are on eBay that
they are not personally selling.

Pluses-
It streamlines the buying and selling in a productive manner.
It could eliminate the need for discussion not related to buying or selling (which is the basis of the forum).
It reduces double handling/ spruiking and disclaiming (Not Mine/ Mine etc.)
It eliminates the unnecessary duplication/ community service notification of easily accessed ebay search tools
such as keeping favourite sellers in My ebay/ or receiving requested availability of specifc pedals or notification through PM etc.
It stops buddy bumping.
People would never need to hear/ read of eBay sales unless they wish to.

Minuses:
You might miss out on a pedal/ some gear you were not aware of.
Not all members of the BJF Forum are members of other forums where BJF sales are advertised (mostly The Gear Page)
which is the duplication/ double handling thing.

What if:

A new approach (whatever it is) were trialled
to see if it improves the buying/ selling/ trading
and having fun with BJF?

The discussion is aimed at critical appraisal for the possible improvement of the BJF Forum.
It's possible no improvement is required,
we like things as they are
and this is a short thread.

Seems a reasonable idea. I don't really have a problem with things as they are, but that doesn't preclude the possibility of improvement. Efficiency of browsing in the buy/sell/trade section is a positive goal.

There is occasionally a lapse into non-buy/sell/trade discussion on the buy/sell/trade section of the forum (including, but not limited to, some bickering that probably should be carried out in private) that some may object to, but I don't find that stuff particularly troublesome - easy enough to ignore.

On that issue, I think Donner has done a pretty good job of maintaining balance. And I love Bjorn's response to one dispute, some time ago: "Gentlemen, please maintain the fun level".

yeah some of it gets annoying, but there really isnt enough traffic here to need much pruning.... and anything truly out of line I can just zap....

I dont understand why people keep posting about the Ebay sales --- its very easy to click on 'save search' and it comes to your mailbox everyday - I do this ...

but collecting sales from other sites like TGP is fine ...

and occasionally a for sale item will generate some interesting talk that Ill bump up to this forum once its no longer about the for sale item :D

But for the most part its content to use or avoid - Im always big on the ~ dont like it ? dont read it ! unless its damaging.......

and the negative commenting on other peoples for sale items rule is posted globally ..... and enforced locally

but yeah any suggestions are always welcome .....

I agree. Some of it more annoying than others, hence the suggestion.
It's like an onion......(see below)

Me too and I'm guessing most do likewise. Un-necessary duplication. I just don't see the point or need.

My experience was that I came to the BJF Forum after hearing about it on TGP.
I know some people who went the reverse from the BJF Forum to the Gear Page.
I think it's simple to view both when you're aware
and you don't have to pay any fees on TGP to be able to buy an item, only to sell it.

True.
A clicking pen can only become irritating once you are aware of it.

Cheers Donner for discussing the layers of the onion.
