'59 TWEED GIBSON GA 20 AMP IN MINT SHAPE(not mine)

Postby melodichaotic » Mon Apr 12, 2010 11:36 am

Just wanted to give everyone here a heads up at one of best sounding 1x12 vintage combo amps. I have three of them, including one exactly like the one in this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Easily loud enough for small gigs, mic-it for larger ones. 18 watts of dripping tweed tone that kills a Tweed Deluxe, Tremolux, Vibrolux night and day. The Ry Cooder amp is the earlier version which sounds great, but this one is even better. One channel 12ax7(dual triode), one channel 5879(pentode--same tube type as a 6267 in a Vox AC 15/early AC 30's which Dick Denny probably borrowed the design along with the GA77 Vanguard, and as well, half of the Gibson GA 40).

I have a '57 GA 40 that kills, but I like this one a little better because both channels are more use-able, the dual tri has the bite, and the pentode, is more meaty sounding, almost like a Marshall 18.
Bottom line in this condition a Tweed Deluxe would be $3K or higher. You tube only shows harp applications which are cool but this thing is a monster when cranked. If I do some demos, which I probably will soon, it would blow this thing up price-wise. Also takes pedals very well.

If you can swing it and grab it for $1k shipped, you will be smiling for a LONG time

Three of them! I salute you, sir! I have but one GA20T (I think mine's a '58). Sweet amp! I had no idea the price had climbed above 1K, but they had been absurdly undervalued in past. It stands with the Maggie 213 as one of my favorite 2x6V6 amps. Hope the buyer appreciates what they're getting.

Ahh, the Maggie 213...my first 1x12 6v6 combo amp love...must get another down the road. That amp is great...totally different from the GA20T...has that sooooeeeeet midrange crunch when dimed, woo hoo!

Yeah, three...in stereo with the trems maxed and set at different rates with the amps angled in about 20 degrees and about 6 feet apart...fools your brain into thinking the signal is PANNING between the amps....and that's without the assistance of any kind of induced altered state!

You're even crazier than I am. Well done, sir!

Yeah the 213 is also a wonderful little amp. Everyone makes such a big deal of the vibrato (which is fantastic) but these have killer tone, vibrato on or off. Mine is sporting a blue alnico Celestion, which loves that sooooeeeeet midrange crunch.
