for me the great stacks at the moment are SHOD > SWF and SHOD > SYOD

Yes I really like the interplay of the SHOD and SYOD, really nice complimentary tones to be had.... 8)

Does anyone have tips for pedal order concerning the DRD, HBOD and EGDM? I see that BJ says in the owners sheet that the EGDM should go early in the chain, but I do prefer (slightly) the HB >> EGDM, but where to put the DRD? FWIW I will be running the DRD at lower gain as I do with the EGDM. Thanks!

HB, DRD - try it both ways, see what you like. I find the HB a bit dark with some amps and so the Treble control on the DRD can be useful there DRD>HB.

So, who's going to send Bobby an SYOD so he can treat us all to a demo?

Hi

and a most welcome to the forum.

I believe I'll have a look at what it says in the owner's manual of EGDM again.

As a sidenote, I'd say I like HB driving things too;)
One I haven't tried is HB>EGD though, most of the stacks with EGD I have tried have involved other green models and RRB

Generally the last pedal in chain will set the lion's part of sound when two or more are combined.

I'd try Guitar>HB>DRD>EGD considering you like HB>EGD with your gear, while that's just a suggestion

At your service

Thanks Bjorn! How cool is that? As you can see by my amps they usually run 5y3 rectifiers, so I tend to sag a bit already ;) I am running the HB below 9 volts for extra sag and the EGDM at 9 volts for clarity in the low/midrange. I do like the HB after my D*A*M Red Rooster and before other OD pedals because it is so touch sensitive. I can get a good Rory IT '74 tone at low volumes with the Rooster >> HB, and the EGDM into either amp sounds better than my el84 DR Z, so that is up for sale now.

It says in the library that the DRD sounds good down to 5 volts!?! Mine should come tomorrow, so I will be trying out all kinds of things, but I am not sure what to expect from the DRD. It is all Bobby D's fault I got one in the first place. I wont have too much time to play at volume until the weekend to really sort things out. I have never been a pedal stacker until I was loaned a few BJFe pedals a week ago. Now I own three! And, I cant stop thinking about the LGW and CAF.

I'm replacing my MRD with a DRD to stack with a BBOD. Problem is that I must run one of the 2 at 18v. It appears the BBOD will accept 18v but I can't imagine it will sound as "rounded" as it does at 9v. Anyone use the BBOD at 18v? Anyone stack with with a DRD?

Hi,

Oh, DRD would still work at 5V's but that is the low limit and at about 7,5 V's there are a few things happening inside that makes DRD saturate earlier thus giving shall we say easier distortion- I'd dial this by ear slowly while playing on my own PP2+. You can also try 12V's on the DRD and at lower distortion settings two distortion mechanisms are reduced which makes for a clearer low distortion sound.

BBOD on 18V would change a few things inside but it can be run that way- when it was designed it was designed for a narrow voltage range of just below 9V to 12V and the currentdraw of BBOD is also very low to allow long use of battery and the original batteries supplied usually measured about 10,7 V.

When combining several BJF pedals on pedalboards they can usually share supplylines without problems.

Ah OK theskjexperience, yes once you turn up your amplifiers with rectifier tubes they will sag a bit which is athe nature of such powersupply designs.

I wonder how you get along with the DRD ? I have found that some really prefer the EGDM and others DRD et.c. often this is a filtering thing but also the illusive 'feel'
I often find the EGDM to be a bit shall we say 'dry' and ths was deliberate in the design as EGD but with some amplifier designs it melts together- funny note to this day I have not yet played an EGDM through a Komet 60 on fast mode that it was originally designed to fit;)

I read you wished for a DRD with a Voice control like on EGD and thank you for that suggestion I will digest and we shall see.
Since I know both circuits of EGD and DRD EQ I can work with.

Have fun
BJ

Thanks again Bjorn! I think I do like the EGDM a bit better than the DRD, and possibly because I keep wanting to turn the Drive up to about 1 o'clock, on the DRD, and typically I don't play with so much distortion. Maybe because my amps sag the "dryness" of the EGDM is so attractive. I like the Voice control (and the Nature control) because I can add a lower resonance to my Swart or take it away for my 5e3 Deluxe. I like my EGDM so much I am selling my DR Z el84 amp as the EGDM sounds better! :D

I did read that for Strats you recommend the Mad Professor Red Distortion, but I am having troubles finding a good youtube or sound clip played with a Strat. I am also not a big fan of 80's compressed tone. I do think a voice control and possibly a treble trimmer like the EGDM could allow for better tuning, but then you might end up with a EGDM anyway lol. I am a huge fan of Rory Gallagher and find the EGDM hits the early 70's, the HBOD and Rooster hits the mid 70's and the DRD hits the late 70's.

Right now I found: D*A*M Red Rooster >> HBOD >> EGDM >>DRD to be the best as I run the gain higher with each pedal and sculpt the frequency with the Rooster. Rarely do I run the EGDM into the DRD as the DRD seems to like the Rooster best. I am still trying to get used to running my Victoria at lower volumes and using pedals for gain. Bjorn's pedals react and sound so amp-like I don't feel I am giving anything up except for a lot of ringing in the ears! I picked up an OCD two weeks ago (before I discovered BJFe) and it always sounds like a pedal. I am going to send it back this week. Life is too short for junk.

SO far I like the HBOD at around 8 volts, the DRD at 7.8 ish and the EGDM at 12 volts. I do like the EGDM at 18 volts, but don't really have the space to donate 18 volts on the PP2+. I will try and run the DRD at lower Drive and 12 Volts tomorrow.

I just put a GZ-34 in my Swart to see how it works with less sag tomorrow. It is pretty tight already as the cabinet is so small the speaker doesn't breath like my 5e3 Deluxe. I am looking to sell two of my amps and getting a Tungsten Crema Wheat which should be a good mix of my Swart tightness and Victoria breath.

Me also wonders if Bjorn is a Green Bay Packers fan with that Cheese Head?

Does your Dr Z have 2 or 4 EL84s? Does it have a Tube or or Solidstate rectifier?
