Rocketride First Echo on the Moon

Postby wonderboy » Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:53 pm

So, it's been about a week since they started selling, and I thought someone might have gotten theirs by now. What do you think about it? Maybe someone could even make some sound samples?
Would love to hear all about it, I'm really thinking about trying one out...

Mine shipped on Monday so I am hopeful it will be here at the end of this week or the beginning of next. I am very excited as I have been without a delay ever since I sold my Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay.

If someone, maybe against all odds, but still will not like theirs when they get it, I think you should give me a PM, 'cause I would be really interested in one!

Would have bought one new, if it wouldn't have been for the shopping spree I've been on lately, and can't quite afford one without going without food for some time...

Mine arrives today or Monday.
I did sell a Rocketride Chorus and kept my Analogman Bi-Chorus.

Very high hopes for this pedal to complete my board alongside my AD-900.

I'm loving it Mike!!!!!!!

Rocketride (FEOTM) arrived yesterday.
I've never owned a vintage or recent DMM- but now I don't think I'll need to as this is tape echo heaven.
It's paired with my AD-900, but the modulation is very impressive and I'm glad I now have both delays on the board.
I'll be ordering another "Y"cable as the quality of the one sent for the PP+2 seems/appears fragile.
Aesthetically, acceptable..but it doesn't do justice to the expertise that went into Mr. Juhl's tweaking and voicing which is Hogwart's tonal wizardry from the Mad Professor.
Anyone who can wear cheese so gracefully deserves to be ackowledged for what he has done so brilliantly yet again.

The Deluxe Memory Man (decal/sticker) is apparent even as an underlying impression,
as well as the black line border on the DMM at the bottom.
The added orange knobs are...well....they're VERY orange.
(I'll post a photo tomorrow and you'll see what I mean amidst a sea of black knobs on the board).
That was more immediately apparent than the sticker- but not an issue-just a getting used to or changing.
Aesthetcally- it is a modded XO, so there are no insurmountable issues or concerns. Sound wise- I love what I've heard but I'm using it live tomorrow and will post a better response and photos then this first impression.

I did pick up a Rocketride Chorus second hand, but kept my Bi-Chorus. That can be a separate comparative post.
I recently sold an Analogman ARDX20.
Sound wise the FEOTM's modulation will better suit my needs/ ears than the versatility of the A/B switching on the ARDX20.
That A/B switching while discernible, was a factor I could live with and play "äround" without concern.
So far, this is the delay sound I was hoping to hear. Great slapback- excellent modulation,
and less thin or metallic sounding than some of the DMM demo's that left me not wanting to buy a DMM
(an impression from demo's/ clips-not the same as owning one).
Tone and sound wise-Very very happy.

Louie..........I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I have a DMM XO and I am jealous... ;P
What are the differences?

Can I send my DMM XO in to get the mod?

I used the delay live tonight after a good couple of hours use during the day.
This is a pedal to get lost in with clean guitar.
TIt also takes other effects on board beautifully, especially my mojo vibe.
You can have subtle modulation and it doesn't need much depth to send you to heaven.

Name any song you love noodling on with delay and modulation- all there from Wicked Game to Albatross and Sun King through to Eno and Lanois...add the vibe and yes I played Breathe Ad infintum as the other guys were beginning to pack up...but then all chimed in...not a cover band song.....but we were on the Dark Side of the First Echo on the Moon.

I thought the AD-900 was great for headroom, but I'm surprised how good the FEOTM is in this regard and you can also sit nicely in layers of sweet repeats while playing over them as they cascade underneath.

I'm now looking at a Model H as my last grail rather than the skreddy.
This is it for me alongside the AD-900.
FEOTM is my delay Utopia.

in the right light you can make out all of the words Memory man-
I found it hard to capture the entire impression from underneath without getting total flare from the flash but this gives a more accurate idea in colour and the impression on the underlying letters.

Themed along the lines of the Rocketride Chorus Vibrato: of which I really like the purple enclosure on the chorus off-set with the art work.
Nicer contrast than the gun metal grey.
Perhaps a future consideration/ option to go another colour line like the BJFE pedals, perhaps a nice blue or even moon shading...I'll leave those decisions to the visual experts.
