The first thing I thought of was what a "classic" sound this was. This name would be simple, alludes to the type of sound, and would hence avoid confusion.

CAOD ... Classic Amber Overdrive

Cheers,

I still like my name, but I'll come back when I have some more time to do "my" Top 10.

I guess someone has to sort through all the entries so I will give it a try. It seems to me that the pedal has the following characteristics:

1. Amber
2. Flametop
3. "Classic" or "Light" overdrive
4. The Honey Bee started as the inspiration, even if it no longer sounds like it.

Based on that, I would propose the following as the core of the "Top 10" voting list (alphabetical order):

Amber Bee Overdrive (Blobcaster)
Amber Classic Overdrive (modification of "Classic Amber Overdrive" suggested by DocRock)
Amber Dew Overdrive (modification of "Honey Dew Drive" suggested by nichcope)
Amber Flame Overdrive (admin)
Amber Sunset Overdrive (analoghog)
Classic Amber Overdrive (DocRock)
Honey Dew Overdrive (modification of "Honey Dew Drive" suggested by nichcope)
Liquid Amber Overdrive (nibus)

Yes :-) I am not 100% sure but I think that DocRock originally came up with the name for that pedal - he was the one who originally came up with the "sound" for that pedal.

Yes, I came up with the sound of that pedal in a way. (Obviously BJ did all the real work, haha!) I was using a JTM-45 plexi clone at the time, and I had gotten a DRD for use as my ultimate rock distortion. This needed a mate to cover the more classic-type overdrive textures as well as work as a great dynamic rhythm pedal; also, something that would really cut through a live band mix. What I was basically going for was a "three channel amp." The clean sound of the plexi was "channel 1," the DAOD became "channel 2," and the DRD was "channel 3." Of course, the DAOD > DRD stack was the additional "channel 4" for absolute stadium anarchy. It was a truly excellent set-up. At the time I had no idea that my idea of a mate for the DRD would end up turning into this whole big deal with the Customshop SYOD's. Pretty freakin' cool!!!

I also helped with the color choice in a way, as I knew this other pedal would sound as though it was from the "red" family, but not quite as red as the DRD. If you scale down from red on a color scale, you start to get into the orange--amber area. Thus the color was born, though I did not specifically ask for amber by name. As for the name of the pedal itself, that was all Bjorn. One day the box came in the mail, I opened it up, and saw "Dynamic Amber OD" painted on the pedal. He had never even told me what he had decided to name it!

I really miss that pedal, and it pained me greatly to have had to sell it.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent. Carry on, gents.
