I have a 5e3 (tweed Fender Deluxe clone) with a Weber Alnico Sig 12, it sounds good, but can I do better? I know speakers are super important, but I don't a ton about them, so please help! Any suggestions for a low watt speaker, that will sound awesome, full, fat, and break up nicely like a tweed deluxe should? That Weber gets there for me, but I just don't know if there are better options and don't want to drop $200 on a speaker without knowing that it'll improve my amp's sound.

is it a new speaker ?? they are kind of like jeans they need a bit of a break in period and when they loosen up they are much more pleasing.....

^ what He said. new sppeaker needs about 40 hours on it for break in. World of difference once it is broken in. Ex.` my old celestions sound killer compared to any new one, they sound like they should. Patients is the key factor there young sempai

hehe right one reason those 40-50 year old amps sound so juicy and forgiving is they have 40-50 year old speakers...

much of the mojo in some of the new 'special' speakers is in cone treatments like 'aging' the cones with fabric softener and setting them out in the sun and various tricks like that ..

the problem with that is that they come new sounding like old speakers, but then they continue to break in and can get sloppy ......

best way is still to do it like jeans ~ you have to earn a good pair of worn ones -- or do it yourself

this is also why I favor separate head and speaker cabs --- once you get a nice speaker broken in you'll want to keep it, tho you may want to swap heads..

That makes lots of sense, eye opening "a ha" moment post for me, thanks Donner! I don't have any heads, but 3 of my combos already have a cab extension output, so just need to pick a cab up to start working on it. Sweet! Thanks again!
