Here are a few records that have come out this year that I really dig:

Supergrass ~ Diamond Hoo Ha Man
Portishead ~ Third
Steven Malkmus & Jicks ~ Real Emotional Trash (great fuzz)
Clinic ~ Do It! (more awesome fuzz tones)
Neon Neon ~ Stainless Style

Of course, the new Spiritualized is coming out soon, too.

Superdrag
The Get Up Kids
The Kicks (Ashtray Babyhead)
Teenage Fanclub
Guided By Voices

Those are what I'm listening to at the moment

also, The Replacements, Husker Du, Big Star, Badfinger, John Davis

The Woggles. Used to be a local Atl/Athens band. Now Little Steven has them on his record label and I think they base out of NY. I could be wrong on that. It's been a few years since I have seen them live but they always put on a great show. And if you remember 80's Athens band Guadelcanal Diary the lead guitarist is now the lead for the Woggles. Good fun Garage Rock and these guys have been at it since 1987. Check it out http://thewoggles.com/html/downloads.html

SeanS wrote:Wow. Some great links there. Listened to some of Garage a Trois. Great! I often listen to Femi Kuti. I recommend checking out Amadou et Mariam (from Mali I think). Especially the album Dimanche ? Bamako with Manu Chao. http://www.amadou-mariam.com

oh yeah, very cool links as well, we must have similar taste. :)
I first heard of Kuti on a 70's recording he did with Ginger Baker,
I think one the songs was even written for Ginger,,such a wild man but great drummer and a great match.

lots of good recommendations from everyone, I havent even heard of the last 10 listed! always fun to hear new stuff.

...Antibalas tours a good bit and originators of Afrobeat,, Fela and Femi Kuti have some amazing pieces, well worth a listen even if your not into that type of music.

Antibalas is great, saw them this past New Year's. I really enjoy Fela Kuti and Femi Kuti as well. I need to see Garage a Trois live in person! Saw Stanton Moore at the DBA in New Orleans and saw Charlie Hunter there too, but different days. Cabo, you ever listen to Lettuce? .... Eric Krasno on guitar and Sam Kininger on sax from Soulive; Adam Deitch on drums from John Scofield Band's Uberjam tour + some other good players too.

Dr. Dog is a Philly band that is worth checkin out. Best way to classify their sound would probably be psychedelic rock with a bit of a pop edge.....definitely a a 60's Beatles vibe going on some trax. Their album We All Belong is great listen from start to finish.

Can't wait to hear that new Portishead album! Long overdue, great band!

If you have not had the opportunity to listen to Tinariwen, Turareg music from Mali, by all means give them a listen. A great back story, as well.
Start with their latest release Aman Iman.

I want to recruit the bass player for my band! :D

Simply brilliant.

A great little, mini documentary is available on Youtube:

Or here with Carlos Santana:

ANd for kicks, here they are with Robert Plant doing Whole Lotta Love:

And a little saharan rap:

I am in awe of this band.

Edit: I must add this one and restate my interest in recruiting the bass player:

I recently rediscovered Guns N Roses and felt like a 7th grader all over again. Anyway, in my search for Guns related stuff, I came across Izzy Stradlin's CD, "River".

It is quite good! It is not GNR material, just good rock n roll. Some great stuff in here for folks that love plain old rock n roll. It's easy to see Izzy's influence in GNR after hearing this album. This man never gets his due as a n equal if not greater contributor to Slash.

Check it out if you can find a copy!
