Need father/son pro musician pairs for PhD research

Hello Everyone,

I'm working a pilot study for my dissertation research examining fathers who act in ways that are consistent with mentoring practices with their adult sons. I have some pairs from the business and sport worlds, but would love to speak to a father and son who are both professionally involved in the music industry. They do not have to both be musicians, but both should be in the industry and have a close relationship that both see as positive.

Through this study, I am hoping to find ways that fathers can learn to better support the professional aspirations and needs of their children. Eventually, I will be examining mothers as well.

Any contact I have with people would be help with the highest level of confidentiality required by professional ethics and law related to research studies. If anyone on this site is interested or knows a pair that might it would be greatly appreciated. Contact me through email and we can set up time where I can explain more about this. Both father and son would need to be available for independent 45 minute interviews with a 15 minute follow up two months later.

Thanks,

Donnel

Thanks! Congratulations on getting yours done! In addition to becoming a new father and a full time job, I've been working on this for the last 3.5 years. I'm finally at the point where I get to focus on my topic area of choice. As you know, the process for moving into "ABD" is no small task. I'm hoping to have all of my proposal requirements completed by the end of spring. This is just a pilot study that I am conducting to justify my dissertation proposal.

Best of luck Donnel, this sounds very interesting and I hope you share some of your findings... probably another 10-15 years for me and my lad though

Thank you, thought it will be a while, I will share some findings here. I'm presenting on this concept at a conference in New Mexico at the end of October. As a relatively new father myself and a believer in the importance of good mentoring, the topic is close to my heart.
