Effect by Tym Guitars - I love these pedals (IMG heavy)

Postby MBT74 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 3:45 am

I'm going post a thread about Tym effects because.... well, I'm a huge fanboy of these pedals. I'll admit it. If any forum would understand, it's this one. :)

I have the advantage of this being my local guitar shop so I can easily try stuff when it's available. Tim's a one man business so things only become available when he can build them (along with running a shop and doing guitar and amp repairs).

Not only are they brilliant sounding pedals, but the movie poster style artwork is fantastic. I'd be happy with a board of just BJFE/BF and Tym pedals.

More people should be using these pedals. Especially for fans of vintage style fuzz. Here's the link to his website for those who are interested - http://www.tymguitars.com.au/

Very cool stuff -- why does he rivet the boxes shut?
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

Dunno really. I guess that's just the way he does stuff. None of the pedals have internal battery clips so I've never had any need to open one up.

That looks like a really fun store! I am lucky in that Wildwood, in Louisville, Colorado, is where I have been shopping the last 20 years and they are in the same store space they were then. :wtf: I think he had maybe 50 guitars in stock where now Steve has 2,000 to 2,500! Though I have noticed he is selling more than he is buying, but the new Fender President is not making life easy for him. Bastard! :protest

THe sad thing is our state tax is over 8% which makes it difficult to buy new guitars though I have usually always bought used. I guess it is still cheaper to get 40% off of list price and add 8.12% than to not try before you buy and only get 30% off.

That Big Mudd Ram's Head V2 looks really great. I have a SUF Pumpkin Pi which I like at lower volumes though it gets hard to EQ when the amp gets going.

I didn't know there was a Brett Netson pedal... Huge Built to Spill fan here - I'm going to have to check that one out. Anybody tried it yet?

Brett's pedal is exactly the same as the regular Tym boost. Brett was so taken when he borrowed Tim's prototype that he chose for it to be made as his signature pedal. Money from the sale goes towards preservation of the last native herd of wild buffalo. Here's Tim's blog entry on the pedal (http://www.tymguitars.com.au/?p=3932)

To me, Tim's muff pedals sound better than the SUF ones. Don't get me wrong, I've had a few of Matt's pedals and they were really good. All of them. But I liked the sound of the Tym ones more and so sold the SUF's and bought the Tyms. The Civil War is just brilliant. It's cloned off the vintage one used by Raul from Aussie band Magic Dirt. It's got this clarity to it that the SUF one didn't.

In fact, I just got this Triangle muff today. :mailbox

You can see the one Tim made for Brett in this photo of his 2012 tour board. Different artwork but same pedal.
