Rockeroo, I intrigued about your choice and would like to know which specific aspects do you like of each of the two cables. I don't know much about cables and haven't used any Evidence Audio cables yet. However, I have been thinking in getting two Lyrics to go from guitar-board and board-amp.

Thanks!

I am sure you would have no qualms about having 2 Lyric HG cables in your set up. Shifting from Monster to Evidence Audio cables (only switched the two long runs ... the board is the same still) completely improved my tone and response. You will, undoubtedly, be impressed.

I chose to use different cables because I have always used a 'mish-mash' of cables in my set-up. When using only one type/manufacturer of cable, I felt my rig began to sound like that particular cable in terms of EQ, dynamics and other things. Also, the Forte lends a bit more flexible usability when moving around on-stage. The Lyric is quite rigid.

The Forte allows for a slightly more open sound in the upper range and a focused sound in the low-mids. The Lyric HG is a bit more smooth across the tonal spectrum.

All in all, I am glad that I chose to use both cable types. I am sure anyone would be pleased with a Lyric HG set-up, but I dare to be different -- for better or worse.

Hope this helps.

I picked up my first EA stuff about 2 years ago and was a total skeptic until trying one side by side with a monster cable at my LGS. The difference is not even subtle, it's one of the more significant improvements you can make to your rig. If you can appreciate BJFE stuff, you will have no problem hearing the difference between these cables.

What you guys need to try is to take a favorite pedal and plug your EA Forte and Lyric HG and to the amp. You might be blown away again by how much sound and dynamics the Lava patch cables are stealing! :music

You know I think you might get me to change all the patch cables with that comment. What do you use?

Lyric HG where possible and Forte the two places I need to bend the cable too much where I worry about damaging a Lyric. Go back a few posts and you will see how I ended up at Lyrics for patch cables. Even between the EA Melody and the Lyric HG is pretty dramatic. I find the difference between the Forte and Lyric HG being the Forte has a fat fuzzy sounds on the single notes on the bass strings where the Lyric is clean/clear and warm with no fuzz. Trying to describe the top end eludes me, but there is something about the sound of the solid wire verses the stranded wire. Again, that goes for speaker cable as well.

Wow, i'd never think of using the thick cables for patching duties. What is the minimum length you order to make it work then? I'll look into it. Also you seem to have tried a few cables and compared them with the Lyric... any other cable experiences? van den hul comes to mind along with a few others...

btw it looks like lava stopped carrying EA?!?!?!!?

Thanks man!

After the rave reviews and a little forum searching, I found some killer deals on used Lyrics HG cables. I have 2 coming, and I got both for less than half price. With a limetime warranty, it may worth doing a few searches online.

Cheers,
Mike

Hey Steve - I have both the EA and one Van Den Hul. The VDH is an incredibly good cable with very similar qualities to the EA Lyric HG, but slightly more flexible. I really bought one out of extreme nagging GAS curiosity. While the EA is clearly a big improvement over lesser cables, the VDH is not (to my ears) a clear improvement over the EA. If anything, they are slightly different, but both sound terrific.

The decision in my mind comes down to one thing:

1. How badly do you want to try a VDH cable?

For the same amount of money you could pick up 2 similar length EA that will sound every bit as good. I will say this, since owning both, all subsequent cable I have bought has been EA. Also, your cable run is only as good as your worst cable, so if you own two EA Lyric, you really owe it to yourself to upgrade your patch cables.

Lava stopped carrying a few of their top brands so they could focus on their Private Label cables. You will notice Lava never shows cross section diagrams, so who knows what's in there.

As far as shortest length of patch cable for Lyric HG would be 8" and you need to use Neutrik plugs which also take their share of space, but I still had enough room. The thing is even though you have to run more cable verses a solder less kit you still end up with far greater punch, volume and tone.

These guys have been great: http://www.earsproaudio.com/index.html The turn around times are far faster than Lava even when Lava gave me good service. I had expressed my opinion a few times on TGP about the lousy sound of their solder less cable and next time I order I wait 2.5 weeks and finally have to start emailing to get my order.
